Coming off a strong season, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are gearing up for their annual general meeting next week to talk about the successes both on and off the ice.
“We’re looking forward to it,” said head coach and general manager Cody Mapes. “There was a lot of positive growth throughout the year for us, and we’re excited to be able to showcase that a little bit, and you know, say thank you to a lot of people, and I’m sure welcome some new people into the organization.”
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Ramada in Weyburn next Wednesday. While there will be discussions of the financial situation of the team, it isn’t the only thing that is discussed. One highlight Mapes is looking forward to is talking about the team’s involvement in the community.
“We get to talk about them a little more on a formal front, and you know, talk about some of the stuff that we got to do throughout the year, and some of the impacts that the community had on us and that we had on the community, so that’s always really exciting.”
The Red Wings will be looking to build on last season’s playoff berth, and the work on the ice will start on August 25th when the fall training camp opens. The camp will culminate with the Calibaba Cup Red and White game on the 27th. The slate of six preseason games will open on September 5th in Yorkton against the Terriers, with the first home game during the preseason on September 9th against the Estevan Bruins.
The regular season will start on September 22nd when the Yorkton Terriers come to town.
