Donald Malcolm Coubrough
Peacefully, at the Gladstone Health Centre, Don Coubrough passed away on September 28, 2023 at the age of 89 years.
Don was born July 6, 1934 and was raised on the family farm west of Portage. He married the love of his life Marj in 1956 and together they raised two boys, Kelly and Kevin. They remained on the farm until 1991 when they switched houses with Kevin and moved to Portage for their retirement years.
Don’s biggest passions in life were farming and volunteering. Both required an immense amount of time, but he found great success and enjoyment in them. Some if the main ones were the Oddfellows Towers (founding member), Independent Order of Oddfellows (he joined at the age of 16), Portage Fair Board, and a director of Manitoba Crop Insurance. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for volunteering in the community, which he was very proud of.
Don was very proud of his heritage and did a lot of research into the Coubrough family, including a reunion back to Sterling, Scotland with his siblings to see where their dad Malcolm grew up. Back at home, his grandchildren and great-grandson were his pride and joy.
Don will now reunite with Marj, his wife of 53 years. He was also predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Jean, sister Margaret (Bud) Kitson, brother Walter Coubrough and brother-in-law John Watson.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his son Kelly (Linda) Coubrough, granddaughter Jill (Shea), great-grandson Oliver and grandson Scott (Fiona); son Kevin (Bev) Coubrough, and grandsons Derek (Selina) and Trent (Jeremy). Don will also be missed by his sisters Audrey (Ron) Tarr and Dianne Watson, sisters-in-law Doreen Coubrough, Ada Henwood and Fay Hewins, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Don's family will celebrate his life privately.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Don’s memory to Sunset Palliative Care, Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3B2.
The family would like to thank Dr. Workman and all the staff at Portage and Gladstone Health Centres for their compassionate care.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
