A familiar face is returning to the lineup of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings.
The team announced this morning that 03-born defenceman Lucas Jeffreys is coming back to Weyburn. He played in 43 games with the Red Wings last year, scoring two goals, adding in nine assists and racking up 166 penalty minutes.
At the end of last season, Jeffreys, who is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was selected 24th overall in the NAHL Draft by the Amarillo Wranglers. He started off this season in Amarillo, where he played in nine games, scoring one goal. The Red Wings re-acquired the blueliner, with Amarillo receiving future considerations in return.
“We’re very excited to add Lucas back into our group,” said Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes. “He’s an incredible person, teammate and competitor. He will instantly become a leader on and off the ice with our group and in the community. He was a staple in the community last season so I anticipate that lots of people will be excited to hear he’s back.”
Jeffreys is projected to make his season debut with the Red Wings on Friday night when the Nipawin Hawks come to town.
