Portage woman arrested following stealing from business, assaulting employee
The Portage la Prairie RCMP have arrested a woman after committing multiple crimes.
According to RCMP, they received a report of a theft taking place in the 2300 block of Sissons Drive. Before leaving the business, she assaulted an employee.
Officers found the woman some distance away after attending the crime scene. Vanessa Woods, 27, of Portage la Prairie has been charged with Assault, Theft Under $5000, Fail to Comply with a Probation Order and Fail to Comply with a Release Order. She attended court on October 3rd.
Police Dog assists Portage RCMP, teenager arrested following Break and Enter
A teenager was arrested by Portage la Prairie RCMP with the help of a police dog following a break-in at a rural residence in the RM of Portage last Friday.
According to police, they were alerted to the break-in at around 8:10 a.m. by the homeowners, who had video surveillance and spotted a suspicious person attempting to steal an all-terrain vehicle on their property.
Portage School Division prepared for another Brake for Breakfast fundraiser
The Annual Brake for Breakfast fundraiser returns to the community Thursday as the Portage la Prairie School Division looks to stock the shelves for its student food programs.
The event, which encourages people to hit the brakes, stop by the Sobeys parking lot, and donate cash, cereal, or other breakfast-related items, will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Keep your eyes peeled for an annual giveaway that helps feed the community this weekend.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at the Prairie Alliance Church parking lot, thousands of pounds of potatoes will be handed out to the public.
While the event is viewed positively going into its seventh year, Spruce Drive Farms owner and organizer of the giveaway, Mark Peters, explains the idea came from a challenging situation in 2016.
Treherne RCMP searching for information regarding break and enter
Police are investigating an incident in the RM of Norfolk Treherne on October 1.
Treherne RCMP took the call at 2:23 a.m. of a break and enter in progress into a building at the corner of Highway # 2 and Road 52 West.
According to police, the two people smashed a window to gain entry to the building and made off with alcohol.
Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call the Treherne RCMP at 204-723-2024.
The RCMP are continuing to investigate.
Environment Canada: Portage records 7th driest summer in 135 years
Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Terri Lang took the time to catch up with PortageOnline and look back at the summer, talk about the fall, as well as the winter to come.
Lang notes that ECCC tracks the meteorological summer, which starts in June and ends in August.
"The average temperature for the summer was +19.5, and the 30-year average is +18.5. So, just one degree above average for the summer. Making it the 20th warmest out of 130 years."
Amaranth RCMP on the hunt for stolen 1998 Dodge Ram
Amaranth RCMP are asking for public assistance in locating a truck that was stolen at the end of last month.
Officers received a call of a break and enter and theft of a vehicle from an address on Highway 265 near Langruth on September 28th, at 6:00 a.m.
The suspects caused extensive damage in entering and exiting the building, according to police.
A grey 1998 Dodge Ram 2500, licence plate HTC 374, with a flat deck and a red fuel slip tank, was stolen in this event.
Portage RCMP make arrest in connection to stolen vehicle
Manitoba RCMP are sharing some positive news Friday regarding a located stolen vehicle.
Portage RCMP responded to a report of an erratic driver on Highway 1 in the RM of Portage Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
According to police, the licence plate was scanned and found to be associated with a stolen vehicle out of Brandon. Officers began patrolling and located the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Crescent Road Wes. The driver was arrested without incident.

Manitoba RCMP are sharing tragic news Tuesday after an Albertan man died Sunday evening.
RCMP officers from Stonewall / Headingley responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 7, located south of the Provincial Road 229 intersection, on October 1 at 10:00 p.m.
