Portage RCMP arrest teenager for carrying bear spray
Portage la Prairie RCMP arrested a Portage boy after he was found to have bear spray in his possession.
According to the police report, the Portage RCMP got word of an incident of a teenager in possession of bear spray leaving an area in the 200 block of Royal Road South just after 7:00 p.m. on April 22nd.
The 15-year-old was located a short distance away and was placed under arrest and faces charges of Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purposes and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
The youth was released to appear in court at a later date with imposed conditions.
UPDATE: RCMP charge 3 Dauphin teenagers following shooting incident
The RCMP is providing an update on a shooting incident which saw teenagers open fire at an unmarked police vehicle in Dauphin.
Dauphin RCMP executed a search warrant on April 20th at a residence after their investigation led to the identification and charges against three suspects involved in a shooting in the early morning hours of that morning.
Portage business owners gearing up to learn more about west end construction
Business owners influenced by the west end construction in Portage will get an update this evening as to how the city work to affect them.
"We heard so much from our members about the lack of communication and not knowing what was happening," explains Cindy McDonald, Executive Director of the Portage and District Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting will be held by the City of Portage la Prairie in conjunction with the Chamber at the William Glesby Centre at 5 p.m.
Dauphin RCMP arrest teenager after shots fired at police vehicle
Dauphin RCMP officers were greeted with bullets when attempting to locate a 15-year-old, who was believed to have a firearm.
On April 20th, at 1:35 a.m., officers were driving an unmarked police vehicle and observed the youth, along with a 19-year-old male, as they exited a residence on 5th Avenue NE in Dauphin.
The police report states that the suspects were walking toward a parked vehicle, observed the unmarked police vehicle approaching and turned around to walk the other way. The suspects continued walking and then began to run.
RCMP looking for public help in homicide investigation
Police are releasing further information relating to a homicide case where a 2007 Honda Accord was found to have burned human remains in the trunk.
The RCMP says that the investigation into the homicide of James Vernon Giesbrecht is now at a place where police can release information relating to the case.
Giesbrecht’s remains were in the trunk of the burned-out Honda Accord on October 13th, 2022, just south of Road 108 West and Road 51 North in the RM of Cornwallis.
Southern Health warns of delays & cancellations with spring storm on the way
Another April storm appears to be on the way by all accounts, and Southern Health-Santé Sud advising that your appointment may get delayed or cancelled.
In a PSA on Wednesday morning, the health authority says that in anticipation of limited road access, they ask that you call them before leaving your home to confirm your appointment.
The health authority notes that pregnant clients should also consider staying where they can access a hospital.
Pembina Valley RCMP respond to fatal two-vehicle collision west of Roseisle
A 66 year old man from Roseisle has died as the result of a two vehicle collision just west of the village.
Pembina Valley RCMP received the call around 11:25 a.m. Monday regarding the collision on Provincial Road 245, about two kilometres west of Roseisle in the R.M. of Dufferin.
The investigation determined a westbound SUV, driven by the 66-year-old man, attempted to turn south onto a gravel road (Road 40W) when it was struck by an eastbound pickup truck, driven by a 67-year-old man from Notre Dame.
Portage RCMP respond to two thefts
Portage la Prairie RCMP reported two incidents of theft leading to arrests earlier this month.
The first case happened on April 3rd, at about 12:30 a.m., when Portage RCMP received an alarm call from a business in the 1200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West.
Officers say they attended the scene after they were informed that a group of kids had stolen several items in a store. Police then located the youths a short distance away.
A 12-year-old, two 13-year-olds and one 15-year-old, all girls, were arrested for Theft Under $5000.00.
Bell MTS landlines down in parts of Portage
Multiple businesses and citizens around Portage la Prairie have reportedly lost landline connections with their carrier Bell MTS.
Residents in the area and businesses such as The Screen Door, Panko's Food Centre, Always a Florist, Chicken Chef, and Benvenuto Pizzeria have reportedly had interrupted access to their phone lines. Some customers have reported they have had no service or problems since late Saturday.

Traffic stop leads to multiple arrests and charges in Portage
Portage la Prairie RCMP officers have charged two individuals following a traffic stop in the city this past Sunday.
According to the police report, the incident happened on April 9th, at approximately 3:20 a.m., when the RCMP stopped a vehicle on 12th Street NW.
Officers say that they approached the vehicle, with four occupants inside, and spoke with the 33-year-old woman driver, who provided her identification.
Officers then observed open liquor in the vehicle while speaking with the other passengers.
