RCMP arrest a Portage man with nudity charge
Portage la Prairie RCMP reportedly received several calls last week about a suspicious person possibly breaking into a residence in the 300 block of 10th Street NW.
According to the police report, on July 11th, officers searched for the suspicious person, and when they arrived on the scene, the suspect immediately exited the residence.
The 42-year-old man from Portage la Prairie was then placed under arrest.

Mayor Ferris speaks on what's in the rearview and ahead for the city at Rotary luncheon
Portage la Prairie Mayor Irvine Ferris attended the July 18th Rotary Club meeting to discuss how the year has gone to date for the city and what's coming up.

MPI warns of text scam
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is asking its customers to be aware of a text scam going on around the province.
The Crown corporation warns that if a customer receives a text message claiming they have missed a payment, do not click on any links provided.
MPI strongly points out that they do not conduct business regarding payments this way.
Winnipeg police arrest suspects involved in Portage robbery
A robbery/carjacking that took place over the weekend in Portage la Prairie has led to multiple arrests.
According to the police report, the incident took place on July 16th at approximately 9:15 p.m., when RCMP responded to a robbery at a business on Saskatchewan Avenue East.
Three vehicle collision in Portage
The Portage la Prairie Professional FireFighters responded to the scene of a three-vehicle collision just after 2 p.m. this afternoon.
The accident reportedly occurred on Saskatawen Avenue East, near Cobbe's Plumbing & Heating.
According to the Fire Department, EMS transported the patients, and the collision is under investigation.

Green team taking care of the community
The Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation's (PCRC) Green Team is once again out patrolling the city looking to make a difference.
The initiative is funded by the province and the city to help clean up any unwanted vandalism and garbage.

Water main flushing continues in Portage
The City of Portage la Prairie has issued a reminder to its citizens of its eight-week water main flushing program taking place this summer.
As of Sunday, July 17, the program will begin its fourth week as the city continues to clear iron and calcium scale deposits to maintain high-quality water.
The city asks that residents within the area getting flushed out should not use any hot water until they have operated their cold water taps to clear the line of any discoloration that may occur during flushing.
Farmer Appreciation Lunch takes place in Portage
A day to celebrate local producers has arrived in the City of Portage la Prairie.
The Farmer Appreciation Lunch, held annually by Country 93 and CFRY 9200 AM, will take place at the MNP building at Island Park today, July 14th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
At the event, there will be free lunch, thousands of dollars in prizes and one farmer will win a Grain Max 2300 Hopper Bottom Bin, valued at over $28,000.
Country 93 and CFRY 920 AM note that this free lunch is a perfect chance to shake hands and visit with the producers in the area.
Portage sees road closure for the foreseeable future
The City of Portage la Prairie has announced that as of today, July 12th, 6th Street NW from 6th Avenue NW to 7th Avenue NW will be temporarily closed.
The closure is due to water main construction taking place in the area and is supposed to be in effect for four weeks, according to the city.

IIU investigating death while in police custody in Long Plain
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the death of a man following his arrest by the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) in Long Plain First Nation.
