Morden by-election

Advocacy, efficiency and transparency, that's what Brenda Klassen says the citizens of Morden can expect from her if she is elected to Council. Klassen is one of seven candidates vying for two vacant seats up for grabs in the December 20th by-election.

"I've been around a long time. I've seen a lot of things and I see ways we can make things better. There's lots of good things happening," said Klassen who's lived in Morden for nearly 30 years and raised her family there. 

Morden's Tracey Krause is one of the seven candidates running in the Morden by-election, vying for one of the two vacant councilor seats. She moved to Morden 6 years ago, but was raised here, and wants to continue to be a voice for all people in the community. 

The withdrawal deadline has passed, and the candidate list has been finalized for the upcoming Morden Mayoral and Councillor by-election.

Former councillor Nancy Penner is joined by Nicholas Hoeppner on the ballot in the Mayor's race.

Chris Abrams has declared his intention to run for one of two Morden City Councilor seats left vacant after newly elected Florian Lassnig resigned, followed by the resignation of Mayor Brandon Burley two weeks later. Councilor Nancy Penner then resigned her council position to run for Mayor, leaving a second vacant councilor seat. 

Abrams has lived in Morden for the past thirty years with his wife and has raised his three wonderful children here. Now he likes to spend time with his grandchildren as well.      

Nancy Penner believes she has the experience and the skills required to be the next Mayor for the City of Morden. 

On Monday, Penner resigned as councillor with the intention of running in the Head of Council by-election set for December 20th following the resignation of former mayor, Brandon Burley. 

She has just completed her first year as a second-term councillor for the community.

Effective immediately, Penner has resigned her post as a councillor in order to run in the Head of Council by-election slated for December 20th. According to section 40(2) of The Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, current council members are required to resign their positions to participate in a by-election.

Candidate registrations for the upcoming Morden Mayoral by-election will be accepted from November 8th to 14th. In a news release issued yesterday, the timeline was announced, along with the instructions regarding how to register.

Prospective municipal election candidates must register with the Senior Election Official during the registration period before they can accept contributions, incur expenses, fundraise, or borrow money for their campaign. Ted Fransen is acting as the SEO.

"It's been fun." That comment from the outgoing Mayor for the City of Morden, Brandon Burley. 

Burley announced suddenly on Thursday that, after leading the City for the last five years, he was resigning from the post. "I have come to recognize the significant responsibility I have towards my family's own transformational growth years," said Burley in a statement released by the City on Thursday. 

After serving the City of Morden for five years, Mayor Brandon Burley has announced his resignation. The City made the announcement via social media at noon Thursday.

"Under Mayor Burley's leadership, Morden has experienced unprecedented transformation and significant growth, emerging as a beacon of progress in the region," stated the news release. "His unwavering commitment to the city, and his visionary approach have played a pivotal role in shaping Morden's future."
