Catholic schools in Cochrane will require everyone to wear a mask

Parents and guardians of students who attend the Catholic schools in Cochrane will need to remember to put a mask in their child's backpack.

All students, staff, and visitors at all schools in Calgary's separate school board will be required to wear masks indoors.

That includes Holy Spirit Catholic School and St. Timothy High School in Cochrane as they fall under the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD).

Edmonton Elks will require vaccination or negative test to attend home games

Thinking of going to an Elks game this fall?

Fans attending games at Commonwealth Stadium will need to be vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test starting Oct.15.

Anyone who cannot provide proof of full vaccination will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result collected within 48 hours of the game’s scheduled start time.

Fans under 12 years of age will be exempt from the requirements.

Manitoba's COVID test rate hits 3%

There are less than three dozen new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday morning, there are 34 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of cases to 58,710. There are 483 active cases and 57,038 recoveries. There are no new deaths.

Manitoba's five-day test positivity rate is three per cent.

There are 63 people in the hospital with COVID-19, including 19 with active cases. In intensive care there are 18 people, with six of those having active COVID cases.

DHS holding Grade 9 Day Tuesday

Grade 9 students attending Dryden High School this fall will be able to transition into high school a little sooner than the first day of school.

Today DHS staff will be welcoming their new secondary students for a very special Grade 9 day.

Grade 9 students can visit the school, their classrooms for the upcoming year and acquire their timetable.

The Grade 9 day will take place today from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Staff will be on hand to direct students and answer questions.

Due to COVID-19 regulations only grade 9 students will be allowed in the building.

PPC leader Max Bernier packs crowd for town hall

If the size of the crowd at the People's Party of Canada (PPC) event yesterday is any indication, the party is gaining a foothold in Cochrane.

A town hall with Party leader Maxime Bernier and Banff-Airdrie candidate Nadine Wellwood attracted over 300 people, about 140 per cent more than a similar visit during the 2019 federal election. The audience was vocal, fed up, and outright angry, particularly with how governments and organizations have started to dictate mandatory immunizations against COVID-19.

Bernier says they are not anti-vaccine, they are pro-choice.

Alberta adds over 3,000 news cases in three days, third vaccine shot approved for some

The three-day total of new cases of COVID-19 in the province since Friday is 3,056.

The numbers break down to 1,231 cases Friday, 960 on Saturday, and 865 on Sunday.

There are now 11,426 active cases in Alberta with a positivity rate of over 10 per cent.

Over the three days, hospitalizations continued to rise with 65 more people in the hospital than on Friday making for a total of 401. Of those, 319 people are unvaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and 69 are fully vaccinated.

ICU admissions also increased by 24 since Friday for a total of 98.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Grande Prairie near 500

As of August 29, 2021 the City of Grande Prairie has 476 active cases of COVID-19, and the County of Grande Prairie has 190 cases.

Cases of COVID-19 across the rest of the province also continue to climb. Alberta now has 11,426 active cases of the virus. 

Hospitalizations have risen to 401, and a total of 98 Albertans are in intensive care receiving treatment.

Third doses of COVID-19 available September 1

Starting Sept. 1, third doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be available for all seniors living in congregate care facilities and for immunocompromised Albertans.

Alberta’s government has always prioritized the care of our most vulnerable. Alberta was one of the first provinces to offer vaccines to seniors in congregate care facilities and to immunocompromised Albertans.

Receiving a third dose will boost immunity levels and improve protection for all seniors living in congregate care facilities and individuals with compromised immune systems.
