August 26: One new COVID-19 case discovered

The Northwestern Health Unit has discovered one new positive COVID-19 test result in the region.

The new case was found in the Rainy River Health Region.

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Currently, in the NWHU catchment area, there are five active cases.

Health unit hosting two walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinics

The Northwestern Health Unit will be hosting two COVID-19 vaccine clinics in the region today (August 26).

The clinics will be held in Kenora and Dryden, but not at each communities arenas.

The Dryden clinic will take place at the Dryden Fall Fair from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., while the Kenora clinic is scheduled between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Kenora Youth Hub.

You're encouraged to book an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome. Anyone born in 2009 or earlier is eligible to get their first dose.

Hospitalizations rise and 1,076 new COVID-19 cases reported over 24 hours

Another spike of 1,076 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours in Alberta. Of those new cases, 69.49 per cent of the cases are in unvaccinated residents.

Hospitalizations increased by 26 cases for a total of 284 while ICU admissions increased by two for a total of 59. Of those 284 patients, 227 are unvaccinated, 11 are partially vaccinated and 46 are fully vaccinated.

One additional death was added for a total of 2,356.

There are now 8,496 active cases in the province with a positivity rate of 9.01 per cent.

Manitoba sees jump in COVID-19 cases

New cases of COVID-19 are in the triple digits Wednesday, more than doubling the usual daily average.

Manitoba has been averaging new COVID-19 cases in the 40s recently and in early August the 20s. This led to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions On Wednesday, the province announced a change.

One hundred and five new COVID-19 cases are being announced Wednesday day. The new five-day test positivity rate is 2.8 per cent in Manitoba.

The Dryden Fall Fair kicks off Thursday

The Dryden Fall Fair is back in action with a new motto and tons of family fun.

The fair kicks off tomorrow with the gates opening at 12:00 p.m. and runs through until Saturday.

“We have lots going on. One of the big changes for this year is, unfortunately, we were unable to secure a midway to come in, but we have everything else that our fair would normally have, so three full days of activities, entertainment and of course all of the animals to go with that,” said Lisa Koshel Dryden and District Agricultural Society Board of Directors Member

Out of 629 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, 483 are in unvaccinated people

Another 629 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 483 or 74.54 per cent are in unvaccinated people, 48 or 7.41 per cent are in partially vaccinated individuals, and 117 or 18.06 per cent are in people who are fully vaccinated. 

Hospitalizations have increased by 14 for a total of 258 of which 206 or 79.84 per cent are unvaccinated. 

ICU admissions saw another three patients for a total of 57. 

Sadly, another seven deaths have been reported for a total of 2,355 in the province. 

Manitoba's COVID-19 projections show potential severe spike in cases

COVID-19 cases could more than quadruple Manitoba's previous record at the peak of a fourth wave this fall, or drop to zero, depending on vaccinations and how closely health orders are followed.

High vaccine uptake and behavioural changes will play a major role in COVID-19 cases in the fourth wave. Dr. Jazz Atwal, Manitoba's Deputy Public Health Officer, is sharing on Tuesday what fall cases could look like.

No deaths, 40 new COVID cases Tuesday

There are 40 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba as of Tuesday morning.

This brings the total number of cases to 58,322, with 56,772 recoveries. There are 362 active cases. 

Manitoba's COVID-19 rate is 2.4 per cent.

In the hospital, there are 64 people, with 20 of those patients having active cases. Among hospitalized COVID-19 patients, there are 18 who are in intensive care, and five of those have active cases.

The number of COVID-19 deaths remains at 1,188.
