A Winnipeg doctor working with severe COVID-19 patients is displeased to see Manitoba's restrictions ease without having any Delta variant projections.

Canadian border reopens to vaccinated US visitors

As of this morning (Aug 9, 2021), fully vaccinated Americans can now reenter Canada. Starting on Monday, along with a number of restrictions, US travelers who are fully vaccinated can enter Canada.

The Canada-US border has been closed to non-essential travel since March 2020. The new travel rules mean American travellers who cross the border must reside in and be travelling from the U.S.

They must be able to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated for at least 14 days with any of the four Health Canada-approved vaccines.

Active COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie at 193, County at 39

COVID numbers have increased somewhat across Alberta and in the Peace Country.

As of August 8, 2021, there are 193 active COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie and 39 cases in the County of Grande Prairie.

Alberta's active case count currently sits at 3,380, an increase of 661 since Friday.

Hospitalizations have also risen from 113 on Friday to 129 today (Aug. 9) with 26 people being treated in intensive care.

Uptick in active COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie

According to statistics on alberta.ca, the active cases of COVID-19 in Grande Prairie have risen to 147.  The data is current as of Thursday, August 5, 2021.  There are currently 22 active cases in the County of Grande Prairie.

Provincially, there are 2,719 active cases with 113 hospitalizations and 25 people currently in ICU.

76.2% of Albertans 12+ have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 66.4% of the eligible population is fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 cases rise as debate continues over Alberta restrictions

The COVID-19 numbers are climbing as Alberta reported another 369 new cases in the past 24 hours bringing the total active cases to 2,719.

Hospitalizations rose by 11 for a total of 113 and ICU admissions increased by one to a total of 24.

No new deaths were reported.

To date, 76.2 per cent of eligible Albertans 12 years of age and older have now received one shot of COVID vaccine, and 66.4 per cent of the provincial population is now fully immunized.

Cochrane held steady with 18 active COVID-19 cases and Rocky View dropped by one to 23.

Rapid-flow immunization clinics to close in Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray

Alberta Health Services (AHS) will soon be closing the rapid-flow COVID-19 immunization clinics in Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray.

The Grande Prairie clinic at Teresa Sargent Hall will close on Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m. The Fort McMurray clinic at MacDonald Island Park will close Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. Until then, these clinics remain open for both first- and second-dose immunization appointments.

Manitoba's test positivity rate back to under 2 per cent

Less than one hundred people are in the hospital due to COVID-19.

As of Friday morning, there are 29 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba.

This includes:

  • 15 new cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • 10 new cases in Winnipeg
  • three new cases in the Southern Health Sante Sud health region
  • one new case in the Prairie Mountain health region
  • no new cases in the Northern health region

Manitoba's five-day test positivity rate is 1.9 per cent.
