Local businesses preparing for weekend reopenings in Manitoba

A sunny weekend ahead will be taken advantage of this weekend at parks and patios, but it is far from back to normal.

New health orders going into effect at midnight on Saturday will see the reopening of most businesses, restaurant dining, and larger gathering sizes for the first time in weeks.

Winnipeg's gathering spot is anticipating seeing more people than they have in the short past while this weekend.

Cochrane at single digit active case count on Thursday, June 24

Cochrane has dropped into the single-digit territory for active cases with a total of 8.

The last time we saw that number of cases was back on February 16, 2021. 

RVC saw a slight increase of three cases for a total of 16.

There were 73 new cases reported today in the province with a positivity rate of 1.3 per cent.

Hospitalizations dropped by nine for a total of 190 while ICU admissions decreased by 6 for a total of 50.

One additional death has been reported for a total of 2,293 in the province.

Town councillor Patrick Wilson joins End the Lockdowns Caucus

A recent presentation by Ron Voss to Cochrane town council has encouraged Councillor Patrick Wilson to join the Liberty Coalition Canada's End the Lockdowns Caucus.

While July 1 will see the removal of most health restrictions in Alberta, the organization and its supporter believe actions taken have set a precedence that will make it easy to enact again, and along the way trample civil liberties.

All Manitoban adults eligible for second COVID-19 doses Friday

The province continues to see vaccination success. 

At 11:45 a.m. on Friday, all Manitobans will be eligible for their first and second COVID-19 vaccine, excluding youth.

"We want it to be your turn to get immunized as quickly as possible," Operations lead Johanu Botha says.

Second doses continue to be limited for youth aged 12-17, but caregivers can make a difference in this.

Manitoba seeing 106 new COVID cases Thursday

New COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates continue to lower.

As of Thursday morning, there are 106 new COVDI-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases after a data correction to 55,692.

New cases include:

  • 64 cases in the Winnipeg health region
  • 18 cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region
  • 14 cases in the Northern health region
  • nine cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • one case in the Prairie Mountain Health region

There are 1,715 active cases and 52,843 recoveries. 

June 24: Three new cases of COVID-19 reported

The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 across the region.

The new cases have been reported in the District of Rainy River area. 

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Currently, there are 8 active cases across the district. Two cases in the Kenora Health Region, four in the Rainy River Health Region, and one case each in the Dryden/Red Lake and Sioux Lookout Health Regions.

Ontario to move into Step Two next week

It’s official! The provincial government has just announced that the province will move into Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen two days earlier than expected.

This announcement is due to the province surpassing the vaccine threshold targets needed. On the recommendation by the Chief Medical Officer of Health as of Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. Step Two will begin.
