Fire ban to be issued on Thursday morning for northern area of Saskatchewan

From their latest update on Wednesday afternoon, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says that a fire ban will be issued at 8:00 am on Thursday, July 10, encompassing the area north of the provincial forest boundary, up to the Churchill River.   

The ban is being issued due to high fire activity and extreme fire risk.  

From Prairie Roads to the Big Screen: Dan Torwalt's old Rambler set to appear in an upcoming movie

It’s not a DeLorean, but a car formerly owned by Humboldt resident Dan Torwalt will be travelling back in time on the big screen.  

His old Rambler will soon be appearing in the movie “November 1963”, which is currently filming in Winnipeg. The movie focuses on the Kennedy assassination and the crime groups involved. 

Torwalt said he originally bought the car back in 2007 in a real estate listing transaction.  

Athletics power past 15U AAA Dodgers 9-4

The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers were defeated by the Regina Athletics 9-4 in a game held in Watrous on Tuesday night.  

Regina jumped out to an early advantage, scoring five runs through the first three innings.  

The Dodgers responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth before the Athletics extended their advantage to 9-1 before East Central added three runs in their final at-bat.  

Wednesday will deliver a taste of summer heat

Wednesday might be a good day to find some shade or stay inside with the air conditioner on if you’re in the Humboldt area. 

The thermometer is expected to continue to climb, surpassing 30°C and with the humidex it will feel closer to 40°C.  

Meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada Crawford Luke says the warm weather is coming from the south. 

Road reconstruction season underway in Humboldt

One of the surest signs that summer has arrived is road construction, and there will be several streets within Humboldt that will be repaired over the next few months. 

Director Public Works and Utilities Peter Bergquist noted the watermain replacements have already begun, as the work has already been completed on Main Street between 1st Avenue and Saskatchewan Avenue.  

Province pledges $20 million to support wildfire recovery efforts

 

The Saskatchewan Government announced on Monday that they would be committing $20 million to communities and individuals who have been affected by this year’s wildfires.  

Through the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), a dedicated Recovery Task Team (RTT) has been established to lead the province's wildfire recovery efforts.
