Update: Smash-up north of Airdrie causing delays on QEII
A motor vehicle collision heading northbound on the QEII, near Highway 581, just east of Carstairs, has been cleared.
Motorists reported delays and congestion in the area. Emergency crews were also reported to be on the scene.
There was no word on injuries.

Neighbouring school division welcomes 48 new teachers
Chinook’s Edge School Division is excited to welcome 48 new teachers for the 2024-25 school year.
According to a press release, The group includes teachers who are new to the profession, teachers who are new to Chinook’s Edge, and teachers who joined Chinook’s Edge part-way through the previous school year. This compares to 38 new teachers who started last fall and 37 new teachers at the start of the 2022-23 school year.
Speed and lane reductions north of Airdrie until end of September
Until September 30, motorists can expect traffic delays on Highway 581, near Range Road 11, just east of Carstairs, as culvert repairs will continue.
According to 511 Alberta, 30 kilometres an hour speed restrictions will be enforced, and lane closures will be in place, with one-lane alternating traffic. Passing will be prohibited, and temporary traffic signals will also be installed. The speed reductions and lane closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Local athletes and coaches receive thousands in prestigious grants
The Petro‑Canada FACE program has chosen several local athletes to receive grants.
According to Petro-Canda, they select 55 up-and-coming athletes and their coaches from across Canada to receive a FACE™, or Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence, grant each year.
"We give grants to athletes when they need it the most – when they are striving to represent Canada at the Paralympic or Olympic Games but don’t yet qualify for government funding," the company website states.

Carstairs Fire Department showcase practicing vehicle extractions
Last week, the Carstairs Fire Department took to social media to show pictures of themselves practicing vehicle extractions.
Josh Van Arnam, a captain of the fire department spoke with DiscoverAirdrie and explained that every Wednesday night, they do some type of practicing.
"We always try and keep up on all of our skills because being volunteer firefighters, we have a lot of skills to deal with as you could end up taking on my different roles in an emergency."
