With daytime highs expected to reach 29 C by Thursday, spray park access may be in high demand. In Airdrie, the taps are already flowing. Chinook Winds Spray Park opened for the season last Friday, offering 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. access seven days a week. It remains one of just two spray parks currently operating near Airdrie.

In Carstairs, the town confirmed Monday that its splash park is also open for the season. The 2,000-square-foot facility is located beside the curling rink at the north end of Memorial Park and runs daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. According to the town's website, it is "a safe, fun environment for children of all ages to while away the summer months."

Elsewhere, crews are still catching up. In Crossfield, the splash park remains closed. A May 26 update from the town said:

"Despite seeing action at the splash park, it will remain closed until its anticipated opening date of June 6."

"Checking the functions of the underground mechanical parts, fixing one broken spray apparatus, and ensuring the safety of the water are all on the task list before opening day."

Olds is facing a longer delay. According to its website, the Centennial Park splash pad is tentatively scheduled to open June 16, weather permitting. The site includes 12 spray features, a footbath, cleansing showers and a daily closure from 5 to 6 p.m. for maintenance.

Environment Canada is forecasting hot, dry weather through midweek, with Wednesday's high reaching 27 C and Thursday peaking near 29. A slight cooldown is expected to follow.

The Weather Network predicts Friday will see a drop to 22 C, with daytime highs dipping to 13 C by Sunday and rebounding into the high teens the following week.

For now, residents hoping to beat the heat before it breaks will need to stay local — or head to Carstairs.
