Last week, an associate superintendent and a group of school administrators from the Westwind School Division in Southern Alberta went to Chinook's Edge School Division to find out more about the division's strategy for helping students with complex needs.

The educators were particularly eager to see the Chinook's Edge Collaborative Support Model for Educational Assistants (EAs) in action at Carstairs Elementary School.

At 1:55 p.m. today, Albertans will experience a test of the National Public Alerting System as part of a province-wide Alberta Emergency Alert drill.

The test will be broadcast across various channels, including television, radio, wireless devices, websites, social media platforms, and the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app. Compatible cell phones will also receive the alert directly.  

Rocky View County has introduced a new, accessible approach to its proposed 2025 annual budget, which is now available for review.

Presented in multiple, easy-to-navigate documents, the budget clearly breaks down County services, suggested improvements, and new initiatives alongside the proposed base budget. This streamlined format lets residents find the information that matters most to them.

Key figures and tax strategy 

One Airdrie resident has created a social media page highlighting the city’s most festively decorated homes, allowing residents of all ages to explore and enjoy the holiday displays. With around 4,000 members, the Facebook group lets members view addresses on a shared document—complete with listed quadrants and photos of stunning holiday displays across the city - and the group is growing, welcoming more residents into the fold. 

The province has announced a contingency plan to ensure that critical mail continues to be delivered during a service disruption at Canada Post as postal workers began a strike Friday.

Canada Post has received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) for both the urban and Rural/Suburban Mail Carrier (RSMC) bargaining units. These notices signal potential strike action, which could begin at 12:01 a.m. (Eastern Time) on Friday, November 15, unless an agreement is reached by then.

The Town of Carstairs recently published a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment, providing a detailed look at the town's current housing market, population growth, and local economic factors impacting housing availability.

According to the assessment, Carstairs has experienced rapid population growth, with a 109 per cent increase from 2001 to 2021. This growth has led to increased demand for housing, primarily single-family homes. It has also highlighted the need for a more diverse housing stock to support residents of varying ages and economic situations.

On Monday, November 11, Remembrance Day, the Airdrie Royal Canadian Legion’s Remembrance Day Ceremony will be hosted at Genesis Place (800 East Lake Boulevard Northeast).

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will end at noon, with doors opening at 9 a.m. Following the Genesis Place Ceremony, a brief ceremony will also be held at the city Cenotaph (near the Town and Country Centre).

The Town of Crossfield will also host a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at the Crossfield Community Center.
