Officials warn local residents of potential mail disruption, impact on bill payments
The Town of Carstairs has warned residents that mail service may be disrupted due to an ongoing labour dispute between Canada Post and its workers. Regular mail deliveries could be interrupted as early as Sunday.
Officials emphasize that residents are responsible for paying bills by the due date to avoid penalties.
To ensure timely receipt of their bills, Carstairs officials advise residents that there are several alternatives to traditional mail service. One option is eBilling, where residents can sign up to receive bills electronically.

Airdrie is currently under a severe thunderstorm warning, with forecasts predicting rain, which may transition to light snow, with up to two centimetres of snow accumulating.

Mountain View County elects new councillor, re-elects leadership
The official results of Mountain View County's (MVC) by-election have been revealed. Tiffany Nixon has been elected as Division 4 Councillor.
Last week, MVC announced that a total of 349 votes were cast in the By-Election, with the following results:
- Sean LaBrie: 158
- Tiffany Nixon: 191
Division 4 voters had two chances to cast their ballots; advance voting took place at Melvin Hall on October 9 and Bergen Hall on October 10. On October 16, the By-Election Voting Day was held.
Neighbouring school division offers new dual credit course
Chinook's Edge students can now enroll in a new dual credit course. Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is offering kinesiology to dual-credit students for the first time.
"Chinook’s Edge has 12 students enrolled, along with other students from two other K-12 school divisions. The Kinesiology course is offered mostly online and in asynchronous classes, supported by staff at the school level," stated Chinook's Edge.
Carstairs Fire Department looking for new recruits
The Carstairs Fire Department has put out a call to locals who are interested in joining the fire department to now apply.
According to Josh Van Arnam, the fire prevention officer and captain at the Carstairs Fire Department, this time of the year is when they are looking for recruits.
"We don't necessarily have a number that we're looking for, but we're looking to hire some people that would like to join the Carstairs Fire Department."
According to Can Arnam, one of the big stipulations is that they have to live either within the town or within five minutes.
Residents rally to support 'salt-of-the-earth' owner after local store fire
The community is rallying to support a local business owner after a fire damaged his Carstairs Liquidauction shop on Friday night.
A friend of the owner and business neighbour, Carstairs resident Mike Lorber, initially spotted smoke that evening.
"My wife and I happened to be in our shop around 7 p.m. [Friday] night, and I was doing a little work on my computer. My wife looked outside and noticed some smoke," Lorber said. "We both left our shop to look at our friend's shop, [which] essentially had smoke rolling out of it, out of the eavesdrops and out of the windows."
Local animal rescue announces closure: 'It breaks my heart'
Pawsitive Haven Animal Rescue, based north of Airdrie in Carstairs, has announced it is closing down operations.
The announcement from the rescue came on social media on Wednesday.
"We would like to remember all of the amazing animals that we helped rescue over the last 6 years! It all started with a little Dachshund named Willow and that very quickly grew into us buying kennels, and rescuing over 2000 dogs and cats! This included spaying, neutering, vaccinating and ensuring that they all found amazing homes!" the social media post stated in part.

Update: Smash-up north of Airdrie causing delays on QEII
A motor vehicle collision heading northbound on the QEII, near Highway 581, just east of Carstairs, has been cleared.
Motorists reported delays and congestion in the area. Emergency crews were also reported to be on the scene.
There was no word on injuries.
