Winter driving conditions will again be in effect for Airdrie motorists on Thursday as snow continues to fall.
The QEII, both north and southbound, is covered in snow, making driving challenging. Snow-packed surfaces and icy shoulders are reported to contribute to poor visibility. Bridge decks, ramps, and overpasses are also likely to be icy; hence, motorists should give themselves plenty of time to commute today. Roads within Calgary will not be much better, as snow has covered lane markings.
Snow is expected to taper off by noon, leaving behind two to four centimetres of accumulation. While conditions may improve slightly in the afternoon, the skies will stay mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of flurries. Highs are forecasted to reach -11, but a persistent wind will make them feel closer to -19.
Tonight will be partly cloudy, with temperatures dipping to -17 and a biting wind chill as low as -21 overnight. If you plan to head out, bundle up—the cold isn't going anywhere.
More snow is expected tomorrow, with flurries beginning in the morning. Another two to four centimetres could make for another slippery start to the day, with temperatures holding steady at -12 and wind chills near -20.
Looking ahead to the weekend, snow showers will linger on Saturday with a high of -13, while Sunday brings a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -14. Overnight temperatures are set to plummet, reaching a frigid -24 by Sunday night.
Prepare for a wintry weekend and keep those winter driving skills sharp—icy conditions aren't going anywhere soon.
