Swift Current Online launches municipal election page

Swift Current Online has built a municipal election page with the big day only three weeks out to help locals better inform themselves before they head to the polls.

The page will feature in-depth coverage of local candidates as they vy and jockey for open positions on city, town, village, RM councils, and the Chinook School Division board.

Wall hoping to bring mindful perspective as R.M. of Swift Current Reeve

A local woman with strong ties to the community is among the candidates running for Reeve for the Rural Municipality of Swift Current this year.

Esther Wall, Reeve candidate for the Rural Municipality of Swift Current, was born and raised in the area and helped to develop a quarter-of-a-century-old family business. 

"I'm passionate about the Rural Municipality and that we keep the rural alive, as well as to provide services and infrastructure to the Rural Municipality," she shared. 

Christiansen wants to continue common sense approach on council

A political nerd with some common sense thrown in.

That's how local business owner Tom Christiansen describes himself as he is looking serve another term on Swift Current City Council.

"You do it because you love the community, and you want to help move it along," Christiansen said. "I think I still have a voice to offer and a reasonable point of view to make sure is at the table when it comes to needs and wants and where our debt level needs to be. Quite simply, I also just enjoy it. I'm kind of a political nerd."

Kyle searching for mayor candidate

The Town of Kyle has put out a second call for nominations to fill two vacant council positions including the mayoral spot.

Five of the seven chairs for council have been filled with three returning councillors and two new councillors all being elected by acclamation.

Amber Dashney, the CAO for the Town of Kyle, said this round of nominations will be open until October 23 at 4 p.m.

Linsley looking to join council with experience & a modest approach

A second-time candidate announced late last week that he will be running for Swift Current City Council and campaigning on several main topics.

Ken Linsley brings a humble outlook and is keen to maintain a safe and growing community with opportunities, advancements, and manageable taxes.

Originally from Moose Jaw, Linsley moved to Gull Lake in 2004 before spending the past 13 years in Swift Current alongside his wife and two sons.
