Walter Siemens, 86, of Winkler formerly of Kronsthal, passed away Sunday, May 11th at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his wife Lynda, his blended family of 2 daughters and 2 sons, 1 sister, and 1 brother. He was predeceased by his first wife, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers. 
The celebration of life for Walter Siemens will be held Wednesday, May 21st at 2pm at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church with burial at Winkler Cemetery. 

Funeral For:  Larry R. Reimer 
Funeral Date: May 16, 2025 
Larry R. Reimer, 76, of Steinbach passed away Monday, May 12th at his residence. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, 2 sons, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and their families. He was predeceased by 1 brother. 
The celebration of life for Larry R. Reimer will be held Friday, May 16th at 2pm at Crossings Funeral Care, Steinbach with private family interment at Blumenort EMC Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at the chapel one hour prior to the service. 
Donations may be made to Steinbach Bible College. 

Funeral For: Marlene Elizabeth Neustaedter nee Unruh 
Funeral Date: May 16, 2025 
Marlene Elizabeth Neustaedter nee Unruh, 86, of Winnipeg formerly of Steinbach, passed away Friday, May 9th at Winnipeg. She is survived by 1 son and his family. She was predeceased by her husband Paul, 1 daughter and her parents Cornelius and Elizabeth Unruh.
The funeral service for Marlene Elizabeth Neustaedter nee Unruh will be held Friday, May 16th at 11am at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue. 

Friends and family of a couple who lost their home and one of their four dogs to a fire over the weekend are rallying together to help the pair through this difficult time.  

The fire broke out just before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in a bungalow on Greenacre Boulevard near McBey Avenue. 

Smoke and flames were pouring from the home when firefighters arrived. 

Strong winds made it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze. However, crews were able to get it under control by 2:30 p.m.

A Steinbach church continues to ask for prayer as a wildfire closes in on a Bible camp they run. 

Bird River Bible Camp was evacuated Monday afternoon as the fire drew closer to their site. 

In a post made to Facebook late Tuesday, Southland Church announced that the fire was around 1km away from the camp.

Traffic signals are working, and the power has been restored following an outage that left 2,500 customers without power on Wednesday morning.

A global study from UNICEF suggests many Canadian kids are unhappy, with social struggles such as bullying and difficulty making friends among the sources of their anguish. 

UNICEF’s 19th Report Card suggests one in five youth in Canada face frequent bullying, one in five are lonely and one in four struggle to make friends.

It blames bullying in particular for a drop in life satisfaction reported by 15-year-olds, down three percentage points to 76 per cent since 2018.

Prime Minister Mark Carney shook up his cabinet Tuesday by moving some key players involved in Canada-U.S. relations into new positions and promoting 24 new faces in a move meant to signal change at the top.

While some were prominent figures in former prime minister Justin Trudeau's government — including Dominic LeBlanc, Mélanie Joly, Chrystia Freeland and François-Philippe Champagne — Carney froze out other prominent members of his predecessor's team.

Carney named 28 full ministers to his cabinet, which will meet for the first time on Wednesday.

The Winnipeg Public Library is looking for its next Writer-in-Residence.

Every year since 1985, the Winnipeg Public Library has picked the perfect candidate to provide one-on-one mentorship and public workshops for up-and-coming writers of all genres in our city.

The chosen candidate will do this through meetings online, in person, by email or by phone. The writer in residence will also offer group workshops and a writing circle. 

During their time in the role, they will also have the opportunity to work on their own writing. 

The Winnipeg Police Service says a missing 79-year-old woman has been safely located.

Police sent out a release just before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, asking for help locating the woman.

The release said she was last seen on Tuesday, May 12, at 9 p.m. near Manitoba Avenue and Powers Street. 

The WPS then sent out another release just after 11 a.m. saying she had been found safe.
