Winnipeg book lovers help raise over $33,000 for sick kids in hospital
A pop-up book market held over the weekend to raise funds for sick kids proved to be a tremendous success.
The Children's Hospital Book Market hosted a one-day event at St. Vital Centre, raising over $33,000 in just seven hours.
"This money will help fund Child Life programming at Winnipeg's Children's Hospital, bringing comfort to sick and injured kids and their families," said the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba in a post on social media.
Roughly 1,000 residents from Snow Lake, Man., set to return home after evacuation
A northern Manitoba town that has been evacuated twice this summer due to out-of-control wildfires has been given the go-ahead to return home later this week.
The mandatory evacuation order for the roughly 1,000 residents who live in Snow Lake, about 700 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, is expected to lift Friday morning.
The town says in a Facebook post that a welcome centre will be set up at the community's hall to provide resources and assistance for returning residents, including mental-health supports and a food bank.

Snow Lake residents set to return home as evacuation order lifted
Residents of Snow Lake can begin making their way home soon.
Snow Lake Council announced Tuesday that, based on recommendations from the Manitoba Wildfire Service and Manitoba Emergency Management Organization, they have rescinded the mandatory evacuation order effective this Friday.
As residents return home, they are advised that there will be increased vehicle activity by the Manitoba Wildfire Service as they continue to keep an eye on nearby fires. They say there may also still be smoke plumes visible that the MWS will be monitoring.

Flight attendants union says tentative deal reached to end Air Canada strike
Air Canada and the union representing its flight attendants have reached a tentative deal to end a strike that began on Saturday morning.
The airline said it will gradually begin operations Tuesday.
The two sides met through the night with a federal mediator before reaching a tentative agreement that will be brought to members of the Air Canada component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
"Your right to vote on your wages was preserved," the union said in a post on its website announcement the end of the strike.
