Tim Horton's Camp Day is back, giving Manitoban kids lasting summertime memories

For all the coffee lovers out there, Tim Horton's Camp Day is back on July 16.

Any purchase of a hot or iced coffee on this Wednesday will help send kids to camp to make lasting memories. One hundred per cent of the proceeds from these coffee purchases will go towards Camp Day, so the bigger the cup, the better.

On top of coffee orders, Tim's is offering $2 Camp Day donuts, with the full proceeds going to help kids as well.

For people who want to support without buying food, Tim's will be selling Camp Day donation badges and Camp Day bracelets.

Inflation rises to 1.9% in June as vehicle price hikes accelerate

The annual pace of inflation accelerated to 1.9 per cent in June as consumers were paying more at car dealerships, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.

The June price hike is up from 1.7 per cent in May and was largely in line with economists’ expectations.

StatCan said gasoline prices were nearly unchanged in June as higher crude oil prices and geopolitical conflicts ratcheted up pressure at the pumps. Motorists saw a steeper monthly decline in prices this time last year, which the agency said led to a rise in headline inflation.

Garden Hill vice chief calls for national prayer as wildfire threat grows

As wildfires continue to burn near remote northern communities in Manitoba, a First Nations leader is asking for prayers.

Craig Munroe, vice chief of Garden Hill First Nation, posted an urgent request on social media late Monday evening, calling on people across Canada and the United States to join him in praying for protection over his community.

Island Breeze set to welcome global guests for international conference

Steinbach's population is about to grow temporarily, as a local non-profit prepares to host an international conference.

Isi Masi, with Island Breeze, says at least 60 visitors from Australia, New England, South Africa, Hawaii, Philippines, United States, Fiji, and Samoa will be arriving in the city for the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) event.

"We're excited about that. We also have other friends... from Nunavut, from BC, from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario that are also planning to come," he says, noting some have been impacted by or a part of the YWAM ministry.

'Where is my father?' How a ministry walks with refugee children facing crisis

Many Iranians seek asylum for a better future for their kids but often face greater hardship. In their despair, they find a hope that never fails.

Many Iranians pursue asylum to build a better future for their children. But sometimes, that decision brings more hardship than hope. Lana Silk from Transform Iran explains, “It’s a mental health crisis among children of Iran today — whether they’re in or outside the country — dealing with depression, anxiety, loneliness, and fear.”

More help coming to battle Manitoba's worst wildfire season in 30 years

The Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS) says the province remains at a moderate to high wildfire danger level, with human activity, including arson, playing a major role in fuelling current fire conditions.

Officials say deliberately set fires are forcing crews to redirect resources that would otherwise be used to manage natural wildfire outbreaks, many of which are burning close to communities.

Carney to meet with Incident Response Group to discuss the wildfire situation

Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to convene the Incident Response Group in Ottawa today to discuss the ongoing wildfire situation across the country.

Carney also convened the group of ministers and senior officials a little over a month ago in response to an earlier wave of wildfires, which peaked in May and June, then receded, and have now flared up again.

More than 6,000 people are currently out of their homes in Manitoba, and the communities of Lynn Lake and Snow Lake ordered residents to flee for the second time in just weeks.

Poilievre wants Carney to cash out blind trust, says ethics screens insufficient

The Conservatives want Prime Minister Mark Carney to sell all the assets in his blind trust to avoid any possible conflicts of interest.

Carney set up the blind trust after he was sworn in as prime minister in March and the details of how it works were made public on Friday.

They show that the prime minister has set up screens to avoid potential conflicts related to his previous interests in Brookfield Asset Management, Brookfield Corporation and Stripe Inc.

But Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre believes that's not enough.
