Tests are never wasted.

God never says, "Oops, made a mistake on that one. I shouldn't have given you that. I meant that for Frank. Sorry, Bob."

It's as if the Lord has our name on specific trials. They are specifically designed for us, arranged with our weaknesses and our immaturity in mind. He bears down and doesn't let up.

And we groan and we hurt and we weep and we pray and we grow and we learn. Through it all we learn to depend upon His Word...

The common response to trials is resistance, if not outright resentment.

John MacArthur, influential pastor and broadcaster, dies at 86

John MacArthur, a prominent evangelical pastor, broadcaster and author whose teachings reached millions around the world, has died at age 86.

His ministry, Grace to You, shared the news Monday evening in a Facebook post: “Our hearts are heavy, yet rejoicing, as we share the news that our beloved pastor and teacher John MacArthur has entered into the presence of the Saviour. This evening, his faith became sight. He faithfully endured until his race was run.”

54-year-old man missing since November 2023; Police ask for public’s help

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing 54-year-old, Allan Childs.

Childs was recently reported missing, having last been seen in November 2023 in the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg.

Childs is described as 5’7” in height, thin build, with short blonde hair, blonde goatee and blue eyes.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for Childs’ well-being and is asking anyone with any information regarding their whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.

Police uncover child abuse material after Downtown arrest

A 30-year-old male has been charged after child abuse was found on his cellphone. 

Shortly after midnight on July 9, the male suspect was taken into custody near Hargrave Street and Donald Avenue. A cell phone that was in his possession was seized, which revealed child abuse materials. 

A search warrant was then executed at a residence in the Downtown area by Internet Child Exploitation investigators. Following the search, additional electronic devices were seized. 

The 30-year-old male suspect faces the following charges:

Morgan Barron signs extension with the Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms with forward Morgan Barron.

In 74 games with the Jets last season, the 26-year-old recorded 15 points and 16 penalty minutes. The Halifax, N.S. native also notched two assists and two penalty minutes in the 2025 playoffs. 

Barron was originally picked 174th overall by the New York Rangers in the 2017 NHL Draft. He has played in 256 NHL games through his career between the Rangers and Jets with 60 points and 80 penalty minutes. 

The two-year extension has an average annual value of $1,850,000. 

Winnipeg pastor answers the call after years of saying ‘Not me’

After pastoring in Nigeria for four or five years, Pastor Yinka Adeyemi moved to Canada and leads The Stone Church in Winnipeg. 

What started as looking for a home church quickly shifted. "We realized that it's high time and time for us to pastor a church and learn the way things are done here," Adeyemi said in an interview with CHVN. 

Manitoba cabinet minister apologizes again for sign-language interpreter comments

The Manitoba government is promising new financial penalties to enforce rules aimed at removing barriers for people with disabilities.

Nahanni Fontaine, the minister responsible for services for people with disabilities, says the NDP government will introduce changes to the Accessibility for Manitobans Act next spring.

In a video posted to social media, she also says the government will work to ensure every public event is fully accessible with participation from sign language interpreters.

Homicide suspect drives into cornfield fleeing from police

A 37-year-old man has died following a shooting in Teulon over the weekend. 

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on July 13, Stonewall RCMP located a 37-year-old male with life-threatening injuries at a residence located on 7th Avenue SE in Teulon.

The victim was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased. Officers believe it was a homicide. 

While on the scene, officers located a vehicle which is believed to be involved and attempted a traffic stop. Officers initiated a traffic stop that abruptly came to an end when the suspect drove into a cornfield.
