Canada's 45th General Election is witnessing a remarkable surge in advance voting participation. Over 7.3 million electors cast their ballots in advance polls, a 26% increase compared to the last general election in 2021.


This record turnout signals a growing trend of Canadians opting to vote early, a shift steadily building over the past few decades. The surge in advance voting reflects increased voter engagement and a desire for greater convenience in the election process.

Strong turnout for Souris-Moose Mountain riding advance polls

Voters in southeast Saskatchewan have been busy over the last few days as advanced polling swept through the country, opening up polls ahead of election day. With polls open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Friday to Monday, voters had 48 hours to get out and make a choice early.

According to Margaret Tuchscherer, Elections Canada's returning officer for the Souris-Moose Mountain area, the unofficial count for the four days sits at 12,528 votes cast at stations.

Advance voting turnout up 25 per cent: Elections Canada

Millions of Canadians flocked to their local polling stations when advance polls opened on Friday, April 18, and according to Elections Canada, estimates voter turnout eclipsed the numbers seen in 2021 by a wide margin.

The preliminary figures indicate 7.3 million electors cast their ballots during the four days that advance polls were open, up 25 per cent compared to the previous federal election in 2021 that saw 5.8 million advance votes cast.

A breakdown of estimated voter numbers in the advance polls by electoral district will soon be made available.

Housing shortages, rising costs and long-term water needs led the policy agenda Tuesday night as candidates in the Airdrie–Cochrane federal race offered sharply different visions for the riding during a virtual election forum hosted by the region’s chambers of commerce.

The event was co-hosted by the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce and Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce, both of which described themselves as non-partisan advocates for business and economic development.

Red Deer Chamber to host informal meet-and-greet tonight with election candidates

Voters in Red Deer will have a chance to meet federal election candidates face-to-face during an informal event hosted by the local Chamber of Commerce tonight (April 23).

The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Marquis Room at the Harvest Centre in Westerner Park.

Federal candidates square off in all-candidates forum

Five candidates running in the Moose Jaw–Lake Centre–Lanigan constituency took part in an all-candidates forum Tuesday night at Grant Hall, hosted by the Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce. 

Participating in the forum were Tabitha Mukamusoni of the Liberal Party of Canada, Fraser Tolmie of the Conservative Party of Canada, Mike Gardiner of the Green Party of Canada, Chey Craik of the People’s Party of Canada, and Britt Baumann of the New Democratic Party of Canada.
