With only two weeks remaining before election day, voters in Selkirk Interlake Eastman will have six candidates to choose from in the upcoming federal election.

Monday, April 7th was the close of nominations for candidates in the April 28 election.

Elections Canada has now updated its list of confirmed candidates for each constituency.

The six candidates for Selkirk Interlake Eastman are:

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is promising that a government led by him would use the notwithstanding clause to override Charter rights to implement his tough-on-crime agenda — something no prime minister has ever done.

Poilievre was campaigning in Montreal on Monday, where he announced he would pass a law to allow judges to impose consecutive life sentences in cases of multiple murders. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled in 2022 that imposing consecutive life sentences violates an offender's Charter rights.

New candidates are stepping up to the plate with the federal election underway, with the Conservative Party of Canada also floating a new candidate with the upcoming retirement of Souris-Moose Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen.

Following a candidacy run, the party selected current Moosomin MLA Steven Bonk to run for the CPC. Since then, he's been on a tour of southeast communities hosting meet-and-greets.

We asked each candidate to respond to four questions. The following article represents the candidate's responses, edited for space.  

The Federal Election Forum that was scheduled to take place on April 23 in Lacombe has been cancelled due to a lack of participation from the candidates.

Blaine Calkins is the Conservative Party of Canada's Member of Parliament (MP) candidate for the Ponoka-Didsbury riding.

Voters head to the polls on Monday, April 28, with advance voting taking place April 18 - 21.

Blair Mahaffy has been announced as the Green Party candidate for Provencher in next month's federal election.

Mahaffy is a lifelong resident of southeastern Manitoba. Born in Winnipeg, he spent summers in the Whiteshell, raised a family in Lorette, and now lives at West Hawk Lake. As a software developer, Mahaffy works with small, independent retailers across Canada. He also does some work as a horseback riding trail guide. 

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is promising to tighten financial transparency rules for elected officials — and is using that promise to take aim at Liberal Leader Mark Carney.

Poilievre told a press conference in Ottawa on Sunday that if his party forms government, he'll ban what he calls "shadow lobbying."
