Missing Stonewall man found deceased near Springstein
The search for a 69-year-old man, who had been missing since mid-July, has come to a tragic end.
On August 30, a cat crate bearing Stewart Campbell’s last name was found in a wooded area of a field roughly three kilometres southwest of Springstein, Manitoba. The discovery prompted renewed search efforts by the Stonewall RCMP’s Search and Rescue team, alongside volunteers from Winnipeg Search and Rescue.
Two days later, on September 1, Campbell was found deceased in the area.
Inquest to examine circumstances behind fatal assault at Stony Mountain
The list of in-custody deaths under formal review in Manitoba continues to grow.
This week, the province’s Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. John K. Younes, announced a new inquest into the death of Nathan Otke, a 36-year-old man who died in 2022 after being assaulted while incarcerated at Stony Mountain Institution.
Otke’s case marks the seventh in-custody death at the medium-security federal prison currently subject to a public inquest.
Winnipeg man arrested in Fraserwood after Interlake theft spree
A Winnipeg man is in custody following a series of thefts across the Interlake that began with a stolen off-road vehicle.
On the morning of July 17th, Stonewall RCMP received a report about a stolen ORV from a property in the RM of Rockwood.
According to police, the suspect used the stolen vehicle to travel north into the RM of Armstrong, where items were taken from another property.
From there, he reportedly continued to Fraserwood, where grocery items were stolen from a business on Road 231.
Search underway for missing 69-year-old man
The community is being asked to help locate 69-year-old Stewart Campbell, who hasn't been seen since the early hours of July 15 and may need medical attention.
Stewart was last seen around 3:30 a.m. that day near the town of Stonewall.
Loved ones and police say he may be confused or disoriented, and there’s growing concern for his well-being.
Described as 5’8” and about 110 lbs, Stewart has shaggy grey hair, blue eyes, and is clean-shaven.
He was last seen wearing a burgundy sweatshirt, light blue jeans, and black work boots.

Stonewall RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating 55-year-old Clifford Johnson, who hasn’t been in contact with friends or family for over a month.
RCMP receive the missing person report on the evening of June 8, though Johnson was last heard from in early May while at his home in Stonewall.
Investigators believe he may have travelled on foot and was last known to be near Medicine Hat, Alberta on May 11.

Stonewall Lions celebrate 40 years of community work
Lakeside MLA Trevor King is officially a member of the Stonewall and District Lions Club after being inducted during the group’s 40th anniversary celebration.
King attends the milestone event over the weekend at the Lions Manor in Stonewall and says he’s happy to be part of the club moving forward.
“I was invited to attend the event. It was an invitation only by the Board and the members of the Stonewall District Lions Club. I was pleased to attend it,” notes King. “40 years is a milestone for sure and they've done a lot of great work in the community here.”
Man in custody following knife-point robbery in Stonewall
A man has been arrested after a robbery at a business on 4th St. E in Stonewall yesterday evening.
The incident happened just after 6 p.m., when a man walked into the store with a knife and demanded cash from the register. He left with an undisclosed amount of money, but didn’t stay on the run for long.
A short investigation led officers to a residence nearby where the suspect turned himself in to police, soon after the robbery. A search warrant was granted for the house, and officers recovered items linked to the incident.
Motorcyclist dies after collision with SUV in RM of Macdonald
A 47-year-old Winnipeg man has died following a two-vehicle crash late Saturday afternoon on McGillivray Blvd. in the RM of Macdonald.
Emergency crews from the Stonewall/Headingley RCMP detachment responded just after 4 p.m. to the scene near Road 8E, where a motorcycle and an SUV had collided.
RCMP say the crash happened when a 17-year-old driver of a westbound SUV attempted to pass another vehicle and collided with an oncoming motorcycle heading east.
