Local annual event sponsors launch of new city project

Frequent visitors to Riverside Park have most likely noticed a new addition over the past week. 

A canoe and kayak launch has been completed in participation with the city and the Haunted Town of Lil-Sur-Mer who sponsored the project. 

Resident and co-founder of the haunted town, Andy Keys says they had planned on helping out with a city project. 

Local student represents province at national chess championship

A local grade 11 student will be heading to Montreal this month to represent Saskatchewan in the game of chess. 

Originally from Mexico, Sergio Del Bosque arrived in Swift Current in 2022 and has been playing the game for the past five years

After winning at a recent provincial chess championship in Regina Del Bosque will now represent the province at a national competition in Montreal later this month as he explains.

Winning weekend on the roller derby track

Two local roller derby teams skated circles around their opponents resulting in a winning weekend for both. 

The Ra Ra Riots, junior team took on the Bridge City Bruiser's from Saskatoon this past weekend at the Innovationplex as part of their season and home opener. 

Ella Toles a member of the Redneck Betties senior roller derby team shares the results from the junior game. 

"The kids did so good. So, the final score was our Ra Ra's won with 306 points to 192 points for the Bridge City Bruiser's."

Digging safe can save thousands

The Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance (SCGA) is reminding residents to dig safely throughout the month of April and throughout the year.

Ra Ra Riots and Redneck Betties set sights on home opener

Residents are invited to come down to the Innovationplex this Saturday to cheer on the local junior and senior roller derby teams in their home season opener. 

Redneck Betties member Ella Toles provides details on the event. 

"Starting off the day at 4:30pm our juniors the Ra Ra Riots will be playing against Saskatoon's juniors. And then after that our senior team the Redneck Betties will be playing against Scarlett Fever at 7:00pm and they are Brandon's team."

Local students take home numerous awards at Regional Drama Festival

Local high school students took to the stage recently as the Swift Current Comprehensive High School hosted the Regional Drama Festival. 

The high school submitted two productions to the festival My Brothers Gift and The Inexplicable Chaos Factor of Mia Gregory, both of which walked away with a number of awards. 

Grade 11 student Mapalo Mushoriwa acted in one of the productions and explains the additional aspects of the festival in addition to performances.
