As the calendar turns to 2025, Souris-Moose Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen reflects on his final months in office, having previously announced he would not seek re-election in the federal election, which must be held by October 20. 

In an interview, the Conservative MP outlined his priorities for the remainder of his term, emphasizing his commitment to protecting the interests of his riding. 

Starting tomorrow, the cost to keep the lights on in your home will be going up slightly.  

Earlier this month, SaskPower announced they would be increasing the Federal Carbon Tax Rate Rider by 2.9 per cent. The Crown power company stated they must revise the rate rider annually to reflect the impact of the scheduled increases of the federal carbon tax, as well as revisions to the emissions thresholds applied to coal-fired power generation.  

The emergency room at the Radville Marian Health Centre will be closed over New Year’s Eve, scheduled to re-open at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The closure due to a physician shortage, which started at 8 a.m. this morning, was announced via the town’s alert system.  

As 2024 comes to a close, Souris-Moose Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen reflected on a year marked by challenges for his constituents and the nation, while expressing hope for change in the future. Speaking in an interview, Dr. Kitchen shared his thoughts on key issues faced throughout the year, his efforts as an MP, and his priorities for the months ahead as he enters the final stretch of his political career. 

North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, is a combined Canadian and American organization that monitors the airspace over Canada and the United States and enforces air sovereignty. For millions of children around the world, however, their most important mission of the year starts tomorrow with tracking Santa Claus. 

The provincial Ministry of Social Services will again have clients who receive benefits by cheque pick up their payments at a local service centre. Social Services instituted the process last month due to the strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, and while the labour disruption is now over, they are opting to handle the payments in the same way due to potential mail backlogs.  

The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the death of a man in RCMP custody. 

Early Friday morning, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of an assault on White Bear First Nation. Officers responded and found two people who were injured. A man was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as serious, and a woman was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.  

After picking up a win in their first ‘home’ game in Assiniboia Friday night, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to keep the momentum going Saturday against the Kindersley Klippers. The Klippers, though, had other plans. They would come out strong in the first period and held off the Red Wings for a 4-2 victory.  

News broke on Friday that federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon was asking the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the Canadian Union of Postal Workers back to work if the board agreed with his determination there was an impasse in negotiations. If the board agrees with his assessment, it would see the striking employees return to their jobs, and work under the existing collective agreements until this coming May.  

When the calls went out from the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings in their search for a temporary home, the town of Assiniboia was more than willing to help out. Within a few short hours of asking for volunteers to billet the Red Wings for the remainder of December, the community had stepped up.
