The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are off to Assiniboia for the rest of December. The team is making the move as a result of the temporary closure of Crescent Point Place due to ice plant issues.  

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit has charged two men in connection with a suspicious death on White Bear First Nation earlier this week.  

The RCMP have charged 22-year-old Jeremy Whitebear with second-degree murder and 26-year-old Dwayne Maxie with manslaughter in connection with the death of 33-year-old Talon Lonethunder. Lonethunder was found deceased in a home on White Bear First Nation early Tuesday morning.

It was a good weekend for a pair of hockey teams from Weyburn.  

The U13 A Young Fellow Gold Wings were off to Calgary on the weekend, where they would play in Wick Fest, one of the largest female hockey tournaments in the country. The Gold Wings would make it through round-robin undefeated and then go on to win the Platinum Championship.  

The provincial Ministry of Social Services is addressing concerns regarding the delivery of benefits to its clients during the ongoing Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) strike, which has halted mail delivery across Canada.

With the disruption of mail services due to the strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, SGI is looking to update their customer information.

The Crown insurance company is sending high-priority mail via courier services. However, courier services aren’t able to deliver to P.O. boxes. With that in mind, they are asking customers who have a P.O. box to provide an alternate mailing address to ensure they receive important documents.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated the federal government would be putting a pause on the GST on a number of items, such as nearly all foods, select alcoholic beverages, children’s clothing, and diapers, over the holiday season. The pause, if it passes through Parliament, would take effect December 15th.  

Conservative Souris-Moose Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen said the move is one of desperation by the federal government as the Prime Minister flounders around. 

Changes are coming to the hours of operation for several border crossings in Saskatchewan. In press releases issued earlier this week by both Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, it was announced on the Canadian side there would be 35 land ports of entry that have the hours change on January 6th, while the American side will have the hours adjusted at 38 ports.  

Following this week’s U.S. presidential election, questions are coming up about what sort of an impact could happen north of the border, particularly here in Saskatchewan. One of the proposed policies President-elect Donald Trump suggested during the election campaign was a broad 10 per cent tariff on all imports no matter the destination.
