Fatal three-vehicle collision near Kisbey
A three-vehicle collision just west of Kisbey, along Highway 13, Thursday morning claimed the life of one man, and sent four others to hospital.
RCMP said the collision happened around 6:40 a.m. Thursday, when an SUV collided with a truck. An additional call for service confirmed a third vehicle, a car, was involved after it collided with the initial collision scene.
Southeast College introducing new programs for 2024-25
Southeast College announced Wednesday they were introducing two new programs for the 2024-25 academic year, and were bringing one back. The move comes after looking at what could be needed in the communities the college serves.
UPDATE: Highway 13 closed after collision by Kisbey
1:03 p.m. - Discover Estevan has learned the collision near Kisbey involved three vehicles. The Stoughton/Tecumseh Fire Department has stated they responded to the scene to assist the Kisbey Fire Department but had returned to Stoughton by 8:45 a.m.
No further details have been released by the RCMP at this time.

Fatal crash on Highway 48: Kipling woman among victims
A fatal collision northwest of Vibank, near Davin, claimed two lives Saturday evening.
In a release issued Tuesday, the RCMP stated the collision happened on Highway 48 around 6:30 p.m. They reported a truck collided with a car, and the drivers of both vehicles were declared deceased at the scene. A man who was a passenger in the car was taken to hospital via STARS with what were described as serious injuries.
Slight rise in southeast unemployment rate
The latest job figures for the nation were released by Statistics Canada Friday morning. While the national unemployment rate was unchanged, and the provincial unemployment rate was down substantially, when adjusted for seasonality, here in the southeast the unemployment number was slightly up.
Southeast Saskatchewan public offering leases bring $2.5M in revenue
The most recent public offering of Crown petroleum and natural gas rights was held Tuesday. The sale, which saw 152 leases across the province and 5 licenses up for bid, brought in $11,048,882 in revenue for the provincial government. This was down by $5.6 million from the sale that was held in August.
Of the 152 leases that were posted, 104 were sold, and three of the available licenses were sold. The average bid per hectare for the leases was $483.03 and $823.00 for the licenses.
Rain delays harvest in southeast Saskatchewan
Harvest is nearly wrapped up in southeast Saskatchewan. The weekly crop report from the provincial Ministry of Agriculture showed that 93 percent of the crop in the region is in the bin. This is on par with the five-year average, but slightly behind the provincial average of 95 percent.
Souris-Moose Moutain MP explains tradition of dragging the speaker
Earlier this week, the members of the House of Commons elected a new speaker. Greg Fergus was tapped for the role after Anthony Rota stepped down.
“It’s a process that has to be followed,” explained Souris Moose Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen. Without a speaker, the House can’t sit.” The vote required all members in attendance, as the vote is done through a ranked ballot. Fergus was elected on the first ballot.
October weather shift: From warmth to chilly rain
With October now here, the first week of the month most commonly associated with fall is starting out very different from the previous month. While we saw temperatures well above normal in September, temperatures below seasonal are expected for the coming few days.
Rain started in the early morning hours Tuesday and continued for much of the day, into the evening hours. Environment Canada recorded 28.1 millimetres in Estevan on Tuesday.
Long-Lost bee: Southern Saskatchewan's rare rediscovery
A rare species of bee that was last seen in Saskatchewan in the 1950s, and was once considered extinct, has again been found in Saskatchewan.
Researchers at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum announced Wednesday they had found, for the first time since 1955, a specimen of the Macropis Cuckoo Bee in Saskatchewan. The specimen had been collected during a BioBlitz near Grassland National Park in 2013 but was cataloged and confirmed as being the rare species this summer.
