As of yesterday, there are 15 candidates for Cochrane town council in the upcoming fall election.

Todd Muir is the latest to officially register after previously filing his intention to run.

A 23-year resident of Cochrane, Muir is a management professional and consultant who has worked for and with several municipalities, including Rocky View County, Red Deer, the town and municipal district of Bonnyville, Edmonton, and Moose Jaw.

“A vote for me would help give you a seat on council that, with my direct experience and background, would ensure Cochrane residents and various stakeholders are always well represented,” he states on his campaign website. “I would be reachable as a councillor, and one who listens.”

Fifteen candidates may sound like a large number, but it is still fewer than the 19 who ran for council in the 2021 election.

Declared so far, in order of filing, are Dan Cunin, Paul Singh, Patrick Wilson, Marni Fedeyko, Don Leask, Alex Reed, Tara McFadden, Cole Sunderman, Scott Shannon, Sabine Spears, Margaret Blair, Mikayla Gale, Todd Muir, Carol Grant, and Laura McDonald.

Three candidates are running for mayor: incumbent Jeff Genung, Morgan Nagel, and Dean Hopkins.

Nominations will continue to be accepted until noon on Sept. 22.
