Growth management top of mind in Patrick Wilson's re-election bid

Town councillor Patrick Wilson is seeking a third term this fall, with a renewed focus on what he calls the most pressing issue facing Cochrane: ensuring growth pays for itself.

Wilson, who first ran in 2017 citing concerns over traffic, fiscal responsibility, and what he viewed as excessive legislation, says he still has “unfinished business” and plans to continue pushing for reform in how the town approaches development.

“It’s about action instead of words” — Airdrie council candidate lays out platform

Chad Stewart, a longtime Airdrie resident and part-time firefighter, is seeking his first seat on city council in the 2025 municipal election.

“I’ve been here since 1996, and I’ve seen the city grow from 18,000 to over 90,000,” Stewart said in an Aug. 5 interview with DiscoverAirdrie.

Stewart has served as a part-time firefighter and registered Primary Care Paramedic with Rocky View County for 16 years. He retired from Eaton in 2024 after 26 years with the company, where he held roles in production coordination, supervision and management.

Nagel says it’s 'Time for Change' at Cochrane town hall

Mayoral candidate Morgan Nagel says it’s time for change at Cochrane town hall, believing town council lost its way during the last term.

Ahead of his formal campaign launch on Labour Day weekend, Nagel has begun connecting with residents to discuss his top three priorities.

In addition to improving governance, he says the next four to eight years will be critical to preserving Cochrane’s identity and preventing it from being absorbed by Calgary.

Councillor Debbie Mitzner announces re-election bid

Strathmore town councillor Debbie Mitzner will be seeking re-election.

Back in May, Mitzner put in her bid to run, being the third candidate to do so.

Raised in Strathmore, Mitzner has volunteered with the outdoor rink, the Chamber of Commerce, and also served as a former member of the Assessment Review Board.

"In her free time, she pursues an interest in real estate and enjoys antiques and travelling," wrote the Town of Strathmore on its website.

Jason Hollingsworth looks to become Strathmore's new mayor

Another candidate has put in their bid to become the new mayor of Strathmore.

Late last month, local business owner Jason Hollingsworth announced that he would be running in the municipal election, which takes place in October.

Hollingsworth came to Strathmore around 25 years ago to open up a chiropractic clinic with his life.

"Even though we've grown, our favourite part is that Strathmore still feels like a small town," said Hollingsworth. "People will greet you with a smile and ask you how you're doing, whether you know them or not."

"I really feel like I still have a lot of energy," Strathmore mayor announces bid for third term

It's almost election season across Alberta. The 2025 Strathmore municipal election is scheduled to take place on October 20.

Mayor of Strathmore Pat Fule is set to run again for a third term in the mayor's seat.

Fule was elected to the council in 2010 and took over the mayoralty in 2017.

Making the decision to run for a third term was not an easy one for Fule, but he explained that he has a newfound energy for the job.

Paul Singh announces bid for town council in 2025 election

Paul Singh has become the second candidate to enter the race for town council.

Last night, Singh announced his candidacy in front of a large group of supporters.

“Today, I’m taking a big step by announcing my candidacy for town council in 2025,” he told the cheering crowd. “This decision is about serving the place I have called home since 2014 and the people I believe in.”

Brent Wiley announces councillor bid

Brent Wiley is the second person to announce their plans to run in Strathmore's upcoming municipal election.

Raised in Regina, Wiley attended the university with a passion for visual arts and had no intention of joining a career in politics.

"I'm still a teacher in town. I work at Holy Cross Collegiate, and for 20 years I've been there. I love that job," said Wiley.

Wiley was first elected to council in the 2021 municipal election, a job which came alongside some unforeseen challenges.

New contender joins Airdrie’s 2025 council race ahead of fall election

Airdrie realtor David Dempsey has filed nomination papers for the 2025 municipal election, joining the race for one of six council seats.

In a May 13 interview, Dempsey said a conversation with friends last December pushed him to run, citing frustrations over rising taxes, slow project delivery, and what he called a gap in council’s advocacy efforts.

"We’re getting all these tax increases, but where is that money going?" he said. "We need things like the new hospital… but the delivery is very slow on those things."
