The Member of Parliament for Provencher says Pierre Poilievre's by-election win on Monday sends a strong, clear message. 

Poilievre claimed victory in the Alberta constituency of Battle River-Crowfoot. He took more than 80 per cent of the votes. 

"I think that sends a strong, clear message that certainly the constituents of Battle River-Crowfoot wanted Pierre Poilievre representing them in Ottawa," says Ted Falk.

The by-election became necessary for Poilievre after losing his seat in Carleton in April's federal election.

Heading into the 2025-26 minor hockey season, Hockey Manitoba has announced they will be launching the 'Green Armband Initiative', a program designed for younger officials, starting in the Pembina Valley with plans for it to expand province wide in the future.

Collecting feedback for Community Climate Adaptation Plan

The City of Morden is working on a comprehensive plan called 'Shaping Morden's Future Together.' A three-part set of plans to help provide structure for future planning. The third plan in this initiative is the Community Climate Adaptation Plan. The first step in creating this plan is to gather community feedback through a survey.   

Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt is reminding motorists to slow down and be alert as school zones come back into effect come the end of August. 

“They would be back in play on September 1st,” Hunt said, “To the end of June.” 

For drivers who may have only recently received their licenses during the summer, Hunt elaborates, saying, “School zones have a lower speed limit near them, 30 kilometres an hour.” 

RCMP say they’ve found the body of a 29-year-old Norwegian hiker who disappeared in northern Manitoba while on a cross-continental journey of the Canadian wilderness. 

Mounties from the Gillam RCMP detachment say police, Parks Canada officers and community searchers from Fort Severn, Ont., were on the west side of the Hayes River on Sunday morning when they received a report from a helicopter pilot who believed he'd spotted the missing hiker’s body. 

They say the searchers went to the area and confirmed the body belonged to the overdue man. 

Employees at the Canada Border Services Agency and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service are the least likely to recommend their office as a great place to work, a survey of federal public servants suggests.

The 2024 Public Service Employee Survey asked federal government employees a range of questions about their satisfaction with their workplace, including about their leadership, well-being and compensation.

One question asked public servants if they would recommend their department or agency as a "great place to work."

Southern Manitoba could see a touch of frost overnight, a reminder that summer is winding down as students prepare to return to school next week.

Environment Canada is calling for clear skies tonight with temperatures dropping to 4 C. With light winds expected overnight, forecasters say there is a risk of frost developing in low-lying areas. Fog patches could also form.

The chilly temperatures will be short-lived. By Monday afternoon, the forecast calls for sunshine and a high of 23 C, with overnight lows around 9 C.

Stu Irvine, more commonly known as Eco Stu, is putting pedal to pavement this month and is participating in the Great Cycle Challenge.

According to the web site, the Great Cycle Challenge has become one of the biggest cycling events across Canada. People of all ages, abilities and from every province across the country set themselves a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal throughout August to fight kids’ cancer.
