Canola growers encouraged to scout for blackleg
Blackleg is a disease in canola mainly caused by the fungus Leptosphaeria maculans. It’s a serious disease that affect canola plants in the seedling stage by attaching to the stems and working up the stem as it grows, inhibiting the movement of water and nutrients within the plant. It can cause upwards of 50% yield reduction in severe cases. Blackleg was first spotted in western Canada in 1975 in north-east Saskatchewan.

It's a Canadian tradition for kids to dress in costume and go door to door in the neighbourhood with a bag, bucket, or pillowcase yelling, "Trick or Treat!" or "Halloween Apples!" as doors open wide. A brief greeting and conversation take place all while candy is thrust into the open treat receptacle with smiles and a brief exchange of joy and gratitude before dashing back down the driveway and onto the next house to do it all over again.

Residential school survivors are calling on Canada to criminalize residential school denialism, echoing one of the findings in a report about unmarked graves and burial sites associated with the institutions.
Doug George, a survivor of the Mohawk Institute, said Canadians need to acknowledge the schools' place in history and to ensure the children who died are not silenced.

Peter Wesley Nikkel, 83, of White Rock, BC formerly of Elm Creek and Winnipeg, passed away Saturday, October 19th at White Rock Hospice Centre. He is survived by his wife Diane, 1 daughter, 2 sons, and their families. He was predeceased by his son David Wesley.
A memorial service for Peter Wesley Nikkel will be held Monday, November 4th at 1pm at Peace Portal Alliance Church in South Surrey, BC.
Driver ticketed after two-vehicle crash on Highway 75
There were only minor injuries in a semi/SUV crash on Highway 75 Wednesday afternoon.
According to RCMP, a 74-year-old woman from Ontario was heading north in her SUV when she missed her turn on to Marchand Road. The crash happened when she attempted to turn around.
As a result, about 4 kms of the northbound lanes of Highway 75 were closed for just over an hour.
The woman was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Pembina Valley Hawks dropped a 3-2 decision to Interlake Wednesday night in Teulon. Blake Farthing scored the shootout winner for the Lightning. Casey Magarrell and Haiden Friesen did the goal scoring for the Hawks. Friesen's seventh of the season with 51 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 2-2.
