The Garden Valley Zodiacs, Morden Thunder and Morris Mavericks were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League Friday night. Rhett Peters scored the go-ahead goal with 2:49 left as GVC edged the Miller Aces 4-3. Caleb Pauls, Mark Schefer and Caleb Friesen also scored for the Zodiacs. Kaden Blair, Dawson Wiens and Gradyen Franz replied for the Aces. Sam Hildebrand recorded the shutout as the Thunder blanked Northlands Parkway 4-0. Logan Enns, Mason Frost, Mason Leite and Carter Dyck did the goal scoring for the defending champions. Nighthawks goaltender Hayden Janzen made 51 saves.
Defence minister announces nearly $65 million in aid to Ukraine
Canada announced the details of a $64.8 million military aid package to Ukraine Friday as National Defence Minister Bill Blair attended a NATO defence ministers meeting in Brussels.
Ukraine's ongoing war with Russia was a key topic at the meeting, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the ministers during the meeting.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, chairing his first NATO defence ministers' meeting since taking the role earlier in October, said the alliance's members are on track to deliver almost $60 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.

The Pembina Valley Humane Society (PVHS) is calling on the community for much-needed donations of dry puppy food and both dry and wet kitten food. Kathleen Wiebe, the Animal Care Coordinator at PVHS, shared the urgent need due to the increasing number of litters in their care.

Pembina Valley residents are being treated to a spectacular sight in the night sky this weekend. The Hunter's Moon, appearing larger and brighter than usual, is captivating locals while also offering a rare chance to glimpse a once-in-a-lifetime comet (Comet C/2023 A3). Male facing mischief charge after Winkler Police and FD respond to Thursday incident
A male is facing a mischief charge, and was also arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act after a Thursday night incident in Winkler.
Police Chief Ryan Hunt says around 10:15 p.m. both officers and Winkler Fire Department responded to the 200 block of 6th Street for a report of a male starting a piece of clothing on fire in the backyard of the property. The fire was quickly extinguished, and police noted a basket of female clothes nearby.
Fifth straight week of 600,000 tonnes plus moved by CPKC Canadian network
CPKC had another strong week of grain delivery during Week 10 of the 2024-25 crop year, moving nearly 623,500 tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products October 6th through 12th.
Altona police investigating Thanksgiving weekend vandalism
One person has been charged with Mischief after surveillance footage revealed he broke some windows at Sun Valley Co-op's Home Centre in Altona.
According to the Altona Police Service (APS), officers found the suspect at a nearby restaurant, where he was causing a disturbance, shortly after the incident.
This wasn't the only mischief complaint reported to Altona police over the Thanksgiving weekend.
