Ribbon cut to celebrate new park under development in Reinfeld

A ribbon cutting was held on Friday to mark the start of construction on phase one of Reinfeld Park.

Members of the community's park committee, the Reeve and Deputy Reeve for the RM of Stanley, and Borderland MLA Josh Guenter were on hand for the occasion.

Phase one work includes bringing water and electrical service into the site, and building an outdoor arena complete with arena boards made with stainless steel, galvanized, and aluminum materials.

The long-awaited Blair Sharpe Active Living Centre in Miami was officially opened with a celebration and ribbon cutting this last weekend. The facility has been operating for a few weeks, however, with many supporters on hand Saturday, including Blair Sharpe himself, that opening became official.
    
It was a donation of $300,000 from Sharpe that initiated this community project. The donation came with a stipulation that it be used for a community project, and within three years.

The Blair Sharpe Active Living Centre in Miami is quickly becoming a hub of community activity. A special program and ribbon cutting was held on June 3rd to officially open the facility, which has been operating now for several weeks.

Jolene Callum says the centre is home to the Friendship Centre but is also a facility that caters to everyone of all ages.

City of Morden preserving piece of history with purchase of former Land Titles building

The City of Morden is ensuring another building with historic value to the community will have its history protected.
    
Deputy Mayor Gord Maddock says the city has purchased the former Land Titles Office building at the corner of 8th and Stephen Streets after the province approached them about its availability.

"It's a building that's very important to us," said Maddock. "We don't want to see somebody get it and tear it down or do something like that. It's part of our history. Just like the clock tower across the street."

The first private physiotherapy clinic to open in Southern Manitoba thirty years ago celebrated that multi-decade milestone on Wednesday, along with its move into a new space on Main Street in Winkler.

Cam Schultz opened Pembina Valley Physiotherapy on North Railway Street in Winkler in 1993, followed by the quick addition of offices in Altona, Carman, and Morden.

Reinfeld Community Park Development Committee has big dreams for 15-acre site

A recent Building Sustainable Communities Grant helped get the Reinfeld Park Committee to their fundraising goal for phase one of their Community Park Development Project.

The value of the grant was $135,802.

“That put us over the top for phase one, and that was huge. And our MLA Josh Geunter, he was a big help to us,” said Friesen.  

Plum Coulee School YIP program teaching students about community and citizenship

A combination of fundraising and philanthropic work by Plum Coulee School's Youth in Philanthropy Group has provided grants to five non-profit groups.
    
Nearly $30,000 in grants was distributed last Thursday during Plum Coulee Foundation's annual granting dinner.  Included in that total, was $2,500, which was given out by the Plum Coulee School's YIP group.
