Give your repairable jackets new life with ‘Warm Hearts’ project

The Warm Hearts: Jacket Repair Project is happening again this year.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council (SWRC) and sponsored by Affinity Credit Union, has the goal of mending donated winter jackets to be re-used, rather than ending up in a landfill.

People are asked to donate their repairable jackets at pre-determined locations in their respective cities, with drop-off points available in Moose Jaw, Regina, and Saskatoon.

Carnie's Comments - No Falling Back in Saskatchewan!

Carnie's Comments

It's a controversial topic.

In fact, just about every time I talk about it I get calls and emails from angry people who get worked up about Daylight Savings Time.

People across the country "fell back" overnight, switching their clocks and watches back by one hour. We don't do that in Saskatchewan and surveys have found the majority of us are against it.

While some in Saskatchewan brag about not having to fall back, others welcome the change. Friends of mine in Edmonton and Winnipeg love DST.

Meet the candidate: Jana Horsnall

The following is the response from Jana Horsnall to questions Discover Moose Jaw posed to all city council candidates:

Q: Why are you running for mayor/council?

A: I’m running for City Council because I’m deeply committed to revitalizing Moose Jaw, creating real opportunities for businesses, and addressing pressing social issues like homelessness, addiction, and mental health. I believe that, with focused, actionable plans, we can make Moose Jaw a safer, more prosperous, and welcoming place for everyone.

Who am I?

ROBERT WALLS TOLMIE

March 7th, 1935 – October 30th, 2024

This is a picture of my dad, Robert Tolmie, bringing me home from the hospital when I was born.  He had more hair than me!  I would take him to Dairy Queen because he loved soft serve ice cream.

He passed away in the wee hours of the morning on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, only 3 weeks and a day after my mother.  He still had more hair than me!

Poilievre asks premiers to axe their sales taxes on new homes worth under $1 million

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has written to the provinces' premiers, asking them to eliminate their sales taxes on new homes that are under $1 million.

It follows Poilievre's own pledge last week that if he becomes prime minister, he will axe the federal sales tax on new homes sold for under $1 million.

The Conservatives estimated that measure would reduce the cost of an $800,000 home by $40,000 and spur construction of another 30,000 homes per year.
