Rising construction costs force city to shuffle funds for urgent renovations

The City of Moose Jaw, like virtually every other municipality in the province and country, continues to grapple with the pressures of a volatile construction market, forcing council to reallocate $280,000 to cover a cost overage on an urgent office renovation project at the City Complex.

City appoints eight contracted building officials with Professional Building Inspections

Moose Jaw City Council voted this week to appoint eight building officials from a contracted private firm, on the recommendation of the Department of Community Services. Administration said the appointments will prevent potential bottlenecks in the city's construction and development sector.

The move, approved unanimously at Monday’s council meeting, ensures that building permit reviews and on-site inspections can continue without delay during staff absences or periods of high demand.

Refinery shutdown, flooding the culprit behind late-August price hike says GasBuddy Analyst

Gas prices have jumped back up toward the $1.46.9 mark in Moose Jaw over the past week and many are asking questions about that sudden rise.

Prices have been relatively stable following the pause on the Carbon tax, but seeing prices at the pump — especially after a brief drop barely a week before — is an unwelcome change. But, according to Matt McClain, Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy, there is a clear and unexpected reason behind the surge.

Farmer Appreciation - Harvest Edition August 27th Winners

Jon Strem of the Briercrest area is our August 27th winner of Farmer Appreciation – Harvest Edition!

Jon shares:

"We operate a small family grain farm near Briercrest, Saskatchewan. We primarily grow durum wheat, barley, flax, lentils, peas, and canola. For us, farming is definitely a family affair. We homeschool our kids, and they can often be seen riding around in the combine, trucks, and tractors with us, learning what it takes to grow crops, work as a team, communicate effectively, and problem-solve on the go."
