Man arrested without incident on Willow Avenue

A 28-year-old man was arrested on the 1100 block of Willow Avenue yesterday. 

Police say Brenden Drotar was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants in Moose Jaw, Regina, and Broadview, and they received information that he was in Moose Jaw yesterday. 

Drotar surrendered himself to police and was arrested without incident. He is set to appear in Moose Jaw Provincial Court today.  

Main/Caribou intersection closure starting today

Starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 and continuing for the rest of the week, the intersection at Main Street N and Caribou St will see temporary lane closures while groundwater monitoring wells are being installed.

Closures will be in place in the southbound right turning lane on Main Street North (turning on to Caribou St W), and on the westbound parking lane on the 0 block of Caribou St W. 

Work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. on Friday. Motorists are reminded that fines can be issued for driving through closed roads or for moving signs or barricades. 

Mayoral Forum gets underway tonight

There are five candidates running for Mayor of Moose Jaw this November. 

As a reminder, the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Mayoral Forum tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Level Conference Room at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. 

Candidates will have a chance to speak about themselves and outline their experience, while also answering questions from the Chamber and the general public.  

Sports Round-Up: Tuesday, October 29

The Moose Jaw Warriors are in Prince George tonight to face the Cougars. Puck drop is at 8 p.m., and you can catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the pregame show at 7:40. 

Tomorrow the Winmar AAA Warriors will be back on home ice - puck drop against the Notre Dame Hounds is 7 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. 

Senior Boys volleyball, Avonlea won the Moose Jaw Junior Varsity City Championship.

Bloc Québécois set to begin talks to topple Liberal government after deadline passes

The Bloc Québécois is poised to begin talks with other parties to bring down the minority Liberal government, which has not met its deadline to pass two key bills.

Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet set the deadline last month, putting the Liberals on notice that to avoid an election "before Christmas" they must adopt a pair of private member's bills.

One of the Bloc bills aimed at safeguarding supply management in trade negotiations has the support of the government and is being studied by the Senate.

Saskatchewan Party holds majority after election, but with smaller margin

After months of campaigning and 28 days after the writ was dropped, the results of the 2024 Saskatchewan provincial election are in.  

The Saskatchewan Party will be returning to government with a slightly smaller mandate. When the counting was done Monday night, they were leading in 35 of the 61 seats and captured just slightly more than half of the popular vote. The 35 seats are the fewest captured by the Saskatchewan Party since the 2003 election when they won 28.  

Sask Party's Tim McLeod wins re-election in Moose Jaw North

As of 11 p.m., enough votes had been counted in Moose Jaw North to declare the constituency for incumbent Tim McLeod, who was Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors, and Rural and Remote Health prior to the provincial legislature dissolving for the election. 

McLeod was first elected in 2020, after Warren Michelson declined to seek re-election. Michelson held the seat for the Sask Party from 2007 to 2020. 

Megan Patterson projected to win Moose Jaw Wakamow riding

Saskatchewan Party candidate Megan Patterson is projected to claim the Moose Jaw Wakamow riding in the 2024 Saskatchewan General Election.

Patterson was born and raised in Moose Jaw and worked as a Business Instructor at Moose Jaw's Saskatchewan Polytech Campus.

She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with Commerce Degree in 2000 and worked for a Fortune 500 company for the next 13 years as an Account Executive and Candian Operations Manager.
