Warriors goaltender Banini named WHL Rookie of the Week
Moose Jaw Warriors goaltender Josh Banini has been named WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 13, 2024, the Western Hockey League announced Tuesday.
Banini earned his first WHL victory in his first start for the Warriors in a monster performance against the Everett Silvertips, posting a .967 save percentage on Friday, October 11.
Gordon Richard Cooke
On Thursday, October 10th, 2024, Gordon Richard Cooke passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a difficult battle with Multi System Atrophy (MSA).
Predeceased by his parents, Gordon is survived by his wife, Liana; their three children; as well as many extended family members and friends. An avid lover of sports, specifically the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, we are sure he is up there watching them play and cheering them on.
Timothy James Stewart
The family of Timothy James Stewart is sad to announce his passing on Saturday October 12, 2024, at the age of 63. Timothy was born on March 7, 1961, to Ann Marie and Raymond Stewart in Belcarres, SK. He will be missed by family and friends. There will be no formal funeral service. Valerie Merrick
Valerie Merrick of Moose Jaw passed away on December 19, 2023, at the age of 86. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 12:00 noon. Reverend Dave Moore will officiate. Elaine Marie Wallace
Elaine Marie Wallace, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, joined her husband Jack on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024. CN rail reports record grain movement
September was a record month for CN when it comes to grain movement in Western Canada.
CN's Vice President of Grain David Przednowek is pleased with the numbers considering they are still working out some of the kinks from the Grain Workers Strike at the Port of Vancouver.
Drones find no increase in encampments in Moose Jaw
Acting Superintendent Cam Lewis gave an update on the Moose Jaw Police Service’s Community Safety Strategy at last week’s board meeting.
He said that 117 properties have signed up for the Trespass Prevention Program, and that police have also recovered and returned 50 shopping carts to local businesses.
Harvest nearing completion across the province
Although rain delayed progress in some regions in the province, the past week saw producers make good progress on harvest. Operations are nearly complete, with 97 per cent of this year’s crop off the field. It is expected – with favourable weather conditions, that most producers will finish harvest within the next week.
Moose Jaw man sentenced to 15 months on drug and weapon offences
A 43-year-old Moose Jaw man was sentenced to 15 months in prison in Moose Jaw Provincial Court recently, after pleading guilty to numerous drug and weapon offences.
Jason Carey pleaded guilty to charges including possession of psilocybin (also known as magic mushrooms), possession of cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a weapon while prohibited.
