Man charged with Aggravated Assault following Friday incident

After an incident on Friday evening, a 21-year-old man will appear in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Monday, July 29, facing a charge of Aggravated Assault.  

Police say they responded to a call for a man with stab wounds at 6:37 p.m. on Friday, with the man being transported to hospital with non-life-threatening but serious injuries.  

They add that both men were known to one another.

Highway 2 overpass repairs are underway following Wednesday's collision

Following an incident on Wednesday that saw the Highway 2 overpass struck by a track hoe on a semi-truck, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways says repairs are needed. 

While the repair cost is still not known, work on the northbound overpass is getting underway and will require a minimum of four weeks. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways said the southbound overpass is still being evaluated to see if repairs are needed. 

Sports Round-Up: Friday, July 26

The Lethbridge Bulls came from behind, scoring 3 runs in the 8th inning and beat the Moose Jaw Miller Express 7-6 in Western Canadian Baseball League action. The Millers are back in Moose Jaw tonight, taking on the Swift Current 57s at Ross Wells Park.

The Millers then head to Regina tomorrow to face the 1st place Red Sox.

Tonight sees the Moose Jaw Canucks 18U against the Saskatoon A's.

In Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays were shutout by the Tampa Bay Rays, 13-0. 

UPDATED: Outage impacting large area of Moose Jaw and surrounding rural areas

SaskPower said that power has been restored as of 12:18 p.m.

SaskPower is reporting that the power is out in areas including Moose Jaw, Baildon, Briercrest, Clayback, Avonlea, rural areas south of Moose Jaw to Old Wives Lake, and all surrounding rural areas.

A cause for the outage and time of repair are not currently available, though SaskPower says crews have been dispatched. 

35-year-old man charged with firearms trafficking offences

After an investigation undertaken by the Moose Jaw Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Section, a 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with several firearms-related offences. 

Police initially arrested a suspect in possession of a handgun with the serial number removed on April 15, 2023, and say they were able to determine the firearm’s serial number and owner.

Nathan Houston went two-for-four and drove-in three runs, sparking the Moose Jaw Miller Express to an 11-3 win over the Bulls in Lethbridge in Western Canadian Baseball League action last night. They take on the Bulls again tonight. 

In Rambler Park Fastball, the Moose Jaw Canadians shutout the Okanese Thunderstrikers, 12-0. 

The Moose Jaw Little League Minor AAA All Stars won the provincial title, beating the North Regina Little League 3 games to one in a best-of-five series.

Major League Baseball, the Blue Jays got a 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Nate Mensik, Nathan Houston, Joe Osborn AND Garrett Dennis all hit home runs and the Moose Jaw Miller Express outscored the 57s in Swift Current 13-8 in Western Canadian Baseball League action last night.


The Miller Express have games tonight and tomorrow in Lethbridge against the Bulls, and they’ll be back at Ross Wells Friday night to face the 57s.

Rambler Park Fastball League, the Moose Jaw Canadians will be at Kaplan Field tonight, where they’ll play the Okanese Thunderstrikers. 

Hillcrest Golf Club requests Municipal Project status for course renovations

The Hillcrest Golf Club is proceeding with plans for a multi-year, $3.5 million upgrade to their course. The Hillcrest needs approval from the City of Moose Jaw because the course includes City-owned land, and management hope to get municipal project status at the same time. 

Municipal Project status for the Hillcrest’s upgrade plans would mean the golf club could issue charitable tax receipts to qualified donors who contribute to the upgrades.
