CAA Travel Saskatchewan gives insight to recent Sunwing cancellations

Last week, the airline Sunwing cancelled most of their flights from Regina and Saskatoon to tropical destinations starting in February. 

This has left travellers scrambling to either rebook through Sunwing from another Canadian city or get a refund and start from scratch re-planning their vacation.  

The million-dollar question remains why did Sunwing suspend most of its Saskatchewan services for the winter season?

There was a time when diesel was much more inexpensive than gas, leading consumers to switch to diesel-ran vehicles to cut costs.  

Over the last two years, that has not been the case, as diesel is now 30 to 40 cents per litre higher than gasoline.  

TSB, CP Rail release details on Monday's train derailment in Chaplin

An update has been provided following a Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway freight train that derailed near the community of Chaplin on Monday morning. 

In an emailed statement to Discover Moose Jaw, the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) says that the incident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. on Monday morning. In addition, 47 intermodal platforms and 95 containers were reported to have derailed.

On Monday, a team of TSB investigators was deployed to the derailment site and is currently gathering information and assessing the occurrence.

Train derailment near Chaplin spurs Transportation Safety Board investigation

The Transportation Safety Board has deployed an investigation team to look into a train derailment near the community of Chaplin on Monday. 

The TSB said in a release that a Canadian Pacific Railway freight train derailed near the community. 

Investigators will gather information, assess the scene and look for the occurrence of the derailment. 

At this time is it not known how many cars derailed, what the contents of the train cars were, and if anyone was injured. 

Chaplin is 83 kilometres east of Swift Current.

With the possibility of extremely cold temperatures in the forecast this week in Moose Jaw, CAA Saskatchewan wants to ask the question “are you and your vehicle winter ready”? That is CAA’s motto this winter.  

Christine Niemczyk, CAA Saskatchewan’s Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations says that the first thing you should do prepare for winter is to make sure your vehicle is ready for the conditions, starting with your winter tires. 

Humboldt motorists hopeful cheaper gas prices stick around

Humboldt and area motorists are enjoying some of the lowest gas prices they’ve seen for some time. As of Wednesday, prices at the pump ranged from $132.9/litre at the lowest to a median at other pumps of $1.34/litre.

GasBuddy Petroleum Analyst, Patrick DeHaan says there are a number of reasons why prices continue to fall.  

“Oil prices have declined, retail gasoline prices at gas bars have followed at a slower pace, and still some decreases in the pipeline,” says DeHaan.
