Kyla Rose was still a few months away from being born the last time Canada played in the FIFA World Cup in 1986. 

On Wednesday, when the men's national team makes its first appearance at the tournament in 36 years, facing off against second-ranked Belgium, she's taking the day off work to watch with her parents and friends at a North Vancouver sports pub.

"I've waited my whole life for this as a soccer fan," she said. "I want to really experience being able to watch Team Canada play in a World Cup game with other fans, not just from my office or at home by myself."

A local woman has won $27,926.40 after 'Catching the Ace' at the Kenora Legion.

Officers in Dryden have seized amounts of fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone and a firearm after a search warrant was executed on Mary Avenue on Wednesday.

The Dryden OPP says the warrant was executed shortly before midnight, which resulted in the arrest of one person. Officers also seized ammunition and items associated with the drug trafficking trade.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Saints senior boys volleyball team is off to Sudbury to compete in OFSAA.

The team captured gold at the NWOSSAA Championships yesterday defeating the Manitouuwadge Wolverines in a best-of-three series. The Saints will travel to compete in the provincial championship on November 24th.

When Teagan Littlechief sings in front of thousands of fans at Sunday's Grey Cup game, she'll be thinking about Canada's Indigenous youth. 

Littlechief, who is from White Bear First Nation on Treaty 4 territory in southeastern Saskatchewan, says she was often the only Indigenous person on stage when she first started performing.

The union representing over 450 employees at Dryden’s Domtar say contract negotiations have hit an impasse and strike action is possible by early 2023.

Unifor, which represents production, maintenance, office, woodland harvesting, chipping and trucking staff in the Local 105 and Local 324 unions, says they’ve applied for conciliation after contract talks broke down this week with Domtar.

Officers with the Sioux Lookout OPP are still searching for missing 31-year-old Larhonda Miranda Shingebis and have provided more information for the search.

The OPP says Shingebis was last seen in the area of Sturgeon River Road on November 5, wearing a grey hoodie, black pants and black and white shoes and was carrying a small black backpack with white writing on it.

She is described as Indigenous, 5’5”, 120 lbs, with a slim build and brown hair that is usually kept in a bun. She was first reported missing on November 14.

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has elected a new Chair and Vice-Chair to help guide them through 2026.

At their inaugural board meeting on November 15, former Vice-Chair of the Board and Trustee Roger Griffiths was named as the new Chair, while Trustee Dave Cornish steps into the Vice-Chair position. The two are both in their third term in office.
