Emergency supplies of pain and fever medication are expected to arrive soon at hospitals overwhelmed by respiratory illnesses but observers say more can be done to guard against future drug shortages.

Health Canada says special imports of ibuprofen from the United States are awaiting distribution, while acetaminophen imports from Australia are imminent.

The agency did not disclose how much was expected or how stock will be split among hospitals, but promised “fair distribution of supply across Canada.”

Brady Oliveira is ready to be in the playoff spotlight.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers third-year running back will make his first post-season start at that position when the team hosts the B.C. Lions in Sunday’s CFL West Division final at IG Field.

Kenora drivers are warned to stay home during tonight’s snowstorm if possible.

Multiple collisions have been reported in the community, including the Harbourfront roundabout, near the Kenora Legion and near the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, among others.

Traffic delays can be expected throughout the downtown core, and drivers are asked to take extreme caution.

Update: Both directions of the Trans-Canada Highway have reopened from Falcon Lake to the Ontario border as of 8:35 p.m. However, conditions remain poor, with snow-covered sections and poor visibility.

The first real snowstorm of the season for eastern Manitoba is so far living up to its promise and highways in eastern Manitoba are closing as conditions worsen.

Municipal staff across the region are taking time tomorrow to honour Canada’s veterans, and a number of closures are planned.

The City of Kenora says all municipal facilities and buildings, including the transfer station, will be closed all day. Recycle and garbage pick-up routes are also cancelled for the day. Anyone with after-hours issues is asked to call 807-467-2080.

Remembrance Day services are scheduled throughout Northwestern Ontario tomorrow morning.

In Kenora, the ceremony takes place at Legion Branch 12.

“The service starts upstairs in the auditorium at 10:30 sharp. We’ll do our service upstairs in the auditorium and Mother Nature permitting, we will then go downstairs and lay some wreaths in the front at the cairn, followed by a parade to the Cenotaph to lay wreaths there in benediction and blessing,” said Jason Lava, president of Kenora Legion Branch 12.

The Kenora Under 18 AAA Thistles have another loss under their belt. They played host to the Winnipeg Bruins, where they fell to a tight game 4-3.

Kenora led the first period 2-1, but that ended quickly when the Bruins scored 37 seconds into the second. Two more goals were added by each team in the third, and it was looking like overtime was on the horizon, but ultimately Winnipeg's Peyton Allard scored with 28 seconds left in regular play.

Kenora will next host a pair against the Parkland Rangers this weekend.

150 workers at the Ear Falls Sawmill finally have a new 4-year contract.

Unifor Local 324 say they’ve reached a new agreement for over 150 maintenance, production and woodyard employees at the sawmill, after their last deal expired in April.

The contract includes a 36 per cent increase in licensed maintenance wages with top rates reaching $49.99 per hour by May 1, 2025, a 24 per cent increase in production wages reaching $39.49 per hour, double time for overtime on Sundays, a 25 per cent increase in pension contributions and much more.

It's a sure sign that Christmas is coming when the Kenora Main Street Christmas Tree is put up.

The City of Kenora is advising motorists that they can expect delays tomorrow (November 15) as the tree is being transported by CJ Edwards and the O.P.P. from Shawna Crescent to the downtown core. 

The closure of Main Street South between Second Street South and Third Street South is also expected throughout the day as Synergy North and City Crews position the Main Street Christmas tree for the holiday season.
