Thanks to the community’s support, a local school is once again able to provide swimming lessons to its students.

Keewatin Public School says they raised $5,000 to help pay for their students’ swimming lessons at the Kenora Rec Centre through their Family Fun Day in September, which costs the school roughly $10,000 each year.

Organizers and volunteers say several hundred community members came out for the day, which included a bouncy castle, face painting, live music, a dunk tank and a silent auction.

Heavy snow is expected to fall Thursday morning into Friday afternoon - anywhere from 10-25cm, depending on your area. With the storm, heavy wind gusts and reduced visibility are expected. 

Kenora -Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm.
Dryden - Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm.

The investigation into the homicide of 42-year-old Raymond Land of Wabaseemoong Independent Nation has brought forward charges for a third teenager.

The OPP and the Treaty Three Police Service say a 15-year-old, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with Robbery in relation to the ongoing investigation.

The City of Kenora is inviting the community to a proper send-off for former councillor Rory McMillan.

A come-and-go tea will take place on Saturday at the Kenora Public Library from 2-4pm. McMillan has spent over 25 years in public service for the city.

1931 – 2022

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our wife, mother, nana and great-grandmother on Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Kenora, Ontario.

Mom was born in Kenora, on June 1, 1931 and attended the local Catholic School, as well as Kenora-Keewatin District High School.  It was here that mom met, and then married Gordon, her high school sweetheart on March 15, 1950.  Together, they celebrated the 72nd wedding anniversary, raised three children, and remained inseparable to the end.

Staff at Dryden’s 7/11 say they were able to reopen last night after a fryer fire in the afternoon.

Residents reported seeing smoke coming from the back of the fuel station’s building around 4 p.m., Staff say it was caused by an appliance fire in the kitchen, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Emergency responders with the Dryden Fire Service and Dryden OPP were all on scene to assist. 

7/11 was able to open up a few hours afterwards, but staff say they will be without certain food items for a few days.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he and his government are ‘back at the table’ with an improved offer for lower-income education workers with the Canadian Union of Public Employees after strike-action ended yesterday.

While Ford didn’t go into specifics of the new deal, he says the two parties are resuming negotiations surrounding wages, benefits and additional supports for education workers across the province.
