Last weekend I was at the beach with my husband and my two boys. My two-year-old and I were digging a hole, trying to dig it deep enough that water would come in on its own. Things were going fairly well until my two-year-old, trying to speed up the process, started filling his bucket with lake water and dumping it into the hole, pushing extra sand into the hole in the process. I continued scooping sand out but each time he came to look at what I was doing, he inevitably pushed more sand in. Even though the sand was easy to move, it couldn't hold up.

Call it the win-win-win lottery. 

Starting September 10, almost 50 Manitoba charities will be participating in One Great Lottery – a combined effort to raise awareness and funds across the province’s philanthropic landscape. South East Helping Hands is one of them, and operations manager Ken Dyck is excited to participate alongside other important organizations. 

Lana Schneider alongside the wonderful folks at Vision Farms were able to enjoy some hot chicken on an even hotter day thanks to Grain Rush! Driven by Great Plains Ford, we took some delicious KFC out to their family farm north-east of Weyburn.  

Vision Farms is a family owned and operated farm near the Rainton Cemetery and has been in the Schneider family since 1961.

Tuesday, September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day.  

Established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO), the day aims to focus attention on the worldwide issue while reducing stigma and raising awareness among organizations, governments and the public – reinforcing the singular message that suicides are preventable.
