Warriors’ season ends with Game 6 loss to ICE

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors saw their season come to an end at the hands of the Winnipeg ICE for the second straight season.

A six-goal second period helped push Winnipeg past the Warriors, 8-2, in Game 6 of their second-round series on Monday night.

“Obviously tonight it’s not the way we wanted it to go, but, lots of guys should be really proud of the way they played all season in there,” Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

Warriors fall in overtime to Winnipeg in Game 4

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors put together another strong game but came up just short in Game 4 on Wednesday night.

Zack Ostapchuk scored 11:56 into overtime to lift the Winnipeg ICE to a 3-2 win, tying the best-of-seven second-round series at 2-2.

“We went out there and we played hard and we got our looks, but there’s a couple of times where maybe we could have put the puck to the net and we didn’t, sometimes you just need to get rubber around the goalie,” Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk said.

Warriors take commanding 3-0 series with 6-2 win

Lethbridge, AB — The Moose Jaw Warriors took full control of their first-round series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

The Warriors went into the ENMAX Centre and skated to a 6-2 win in Game 3, taking a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series.

“The guys did a good job of making sure that we were inside first [in the defensive zone], we did a good job in front of Connor and then obviously Connor made all the saves that we have come to expect him to make,” Warriors assistant coach Gord Burnett said.

Warriors win double overtime thriller in Game 1

The Moose Jaw Warriors and Lethbridge Hurricanes put together an epic battle for Game 1 of their best-of-seven series on Friday night.

The two teams combined for 105 shots and just three goals over 99 minutes of hockey at the Moose Jaw Events Centre with the Warriors pulling out the 2-1 double overtime victory.

“It showed who wanted it more by the end of that… it’s awesome to see that our team never gave up,” Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said after scoring the overtime winner.

‘There’s something special about playoffs’: Warriors ready for Game 1 against the Hurricanes

The Western Hockey League playoffs return to the Hangar this weekend.

“Judging by the energy around the dressing room here and in practice today, they’re pretty fired up,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary.

The Moose Jaw Warriors will host games one and two of their first-round series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday and Saturday.

The Warriors finished the regular season with a 41-24-0-3 record, earning the eighth 40-win season in franchise history. The team also locked up a home-ice advantage in the first round for the second straight season.

Warriors honour award winners for 2022-23 season

The Moose Jaw Warriors honoured the 2022-23 season’s top performers before the regular season finale on Saturday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk was the big winner, taking home the Player of the Year and Safeway Top Defenceman awards.

Mateychuk finished the regular season with eight goals and 65 points in 63 games, setting a career-high in points and assists (57).

Warriors win in Winnipeg; clinch home ice advantage

Winnipeg, MB — It took 10 attempts for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but they finally knocked off the ICE in Winnipeg.

The Warriors went into the Wayne Fleming Arena on Wednesday night and came back to win 6-4 over the ICE.

“Over the past few years, we’ve had some tough nights in here and the scores have been lopsided the other way, so to get one tonight, it gives the guys confidence that if we do run into this team down the road that we can play in this building,” Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

Warriors roll Sunday in sweep of Broncos

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors finished off their extended weekend home-and-home set against the Swift Current Broncos on a high note.

Denton Mateychuk had two goals and four points as the Warriors rolled to a 7-3 win over the Broncos at the Moose Jaw Events on Sunday afternoon.

“All the guys are hungry to get into the playoffs and get going from there, so that was a big contribution to [Sunday’s performance],” Mateychuk said after the game.

Warriors fall to Wheat Kings on Wednesday night

Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors got exactly the start that they were looking for, but couldn’t carry the momentum over on Wednesday night.

Despite scoring in the opening 90 seconds of the first and second periods, the Warriors lost 7-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“There’s a lot of things that you could say didn’t go our way, but it comes down to execution,” Warriors forward Brayden Yager said. “You’ve got to play for 60 minutes because tonight and in Swift, it hurt us not playing the full 60 minutes.”
