Carney campaigning in his Ottawa riding today, Poilievre in Winnipeg

Liberal Leader Mark Carney will be campaigning in Nepean today, the Ottawa riding where he is seeking election.

Carney, who has not yet served as an MP, is expected to meet with volunteers in the riding at 10 a.m.

Carney has faced questions about his decision to run in Nepean, which became vacant only after the Liberal party ousted MP Chandra Arya as its candidate three days before the election was called.

Bridge closure on Range Road 123

The bridge on Range Road 123 between Township Road 734 and Township Road 732 will be closed for 10 days for maintenance starting April 1, 2025, with no through access.

The project is expected to be completed mid-April, weather dependent.  

  • Traffic will detour on Range Road 122 to access Range Road 123 north and south of the bridge.

Dust suppression applications open for 2025

Residents and business owners with properties next to gravel roads can apply for dust suppression treatment between April 1 and April 25, 2025.

Residents in rural service areas may request dust suppression and control treatment for gravel roads in sections of at least 100 metres.

The application fee is $440 for residential properties and $660 for commercial properties per 100 metres of gravel road.

High Prairie RCMP makes arrests in break and enter investigation

Over the past several weeks, High Prairie RCMP has received multiple complaints regarding break and enters in the High Prairie area. An investigation was quickly initiated but little evidence was to be found at the various locations. This changed after a break and enter took place at I&P Mechanic on March 15, 2025. The cameras installed at the business were able to capture the three suspects, two of which were identified and subsequently arrested by High Prairie RCMP. The third suspect, who was brandishing a firearm at the time, has yet to be identified.

On March 16, 2025, at 2:25 p.m., Manning RCMP responded to a report that a deceased individual, later identified as Nathan Loonskin, a 38-year-old Paddle Prairie, Alta. resident, was located within a vehicle on Range Road 224, in Carcajou, Alta. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed and has taken carriage of the investigation.
