Saskatchewan delegation heading to U.K. for World Nuclear Symposium

Saskatchewan is sending a delegation to the United Kingdom next week to promote the province’s role in global nuclear development and strengthen international partnerships.

Crown Investments Corporation Minister Jeremy Harrison will lead the mission to the World Nuclear Symposium, which runs Sept. 1 to 6 in London. The event marks the symposium’s 50th anniversary and brings together industry leaders, governments, and researchers from around the world.

CN Rail prepares to ramp up operations

As harvest operations begin across the prairies, CN Rail is monitoring the impact of weather on the harvest and working with customers as it prepares to ramp up grain movement. 

David Przednowek,Vice President of Grain for CN Rail says with the seasonal decline that they usually see in shipping, they move some of the hopper car fleet into long-term storage, and it's time to bring them back out and get them ready to roll.

It's PBR week in Kindersley!

The best bull riding talent around is invading Kindersley this weekend, with the PBR Canada Touring Pro Division Energy Dodge Dakota Buttar Invitational.

The fun is being doubled from the one-night-show last year, as last year's PBR event was so successful that organizers booked out two nights in 2025, Friday, September 5, and Saturday, September 6. The two-night competition is also slated to be the richest single PBR Touring Series event in Canada with a $30,000 prize purse.

Vehicle-pedestrian collision and rollover keep CEN Fire Department busy

CEN (Chesterfield, Eatonia, Newcombe) Volunteer Fire Department had a busy end to the long weekend, responding to two separate incidents in the area.

The first call came in Sunday morning at around 8:50 a.m. when firefighters were dispatched to the Laporte area for a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. CEN Fire assisted EMS at the scene, and one person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Saskatchewan riders urged to take ATV safety courses this fall

As fall approaches and riders head out into Saskatchewan’s countryside, the Saskatchewan All-Terrain Vehicle Association (SATVA) is urging all ATV enthusiasts to make safety training a priority.

“A certified ATV safety course is one of the best investments any rider can make,” said John Meed, executive director of SATVA. “Whether you're a new rider or a seasoned one, formal training improves your skills, boosts your confidence, and can help prevent serious injuries.”

Parking changes on 1st Avenue in Kindersley to improve safety

Drivers in Kindersley will soon notice a change in how they park near the town’s busiest intersection.

The Town of Kindersley says parking on 1st Avenue East and 1st Avenue West, on either side of Main Street, is being switched from angle parking to parallel parking.

Communications coordinator Anna Polsfut says the move is aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.

Majority of Canadian youth have been bullied, child poverty on the rise: report

A new report released as students across the country return to school finds bullying, poverty and mental illness are on the rise among Canadian youth and urges action from policy-makers to improve the lives of children. 

The Raising Canada report says more than 70 per cent of Canadian youth between the ages of 12 and 17 experienced bullying in the last year, and more than 13 per cent of children were living in poverty by the end of 2024.

HERSCHEL SMITH

Herschel Smith, 82, passed away August 27, 2025, at RUH in Saskatoon. He was born in Elrose, May 16, 1943, to Marshall and Alice Smith. Early years were spent on the farm at Sanctuary and later in Elrose. He eventually ended up back on the farm in 1965 until the present. He loved the land, trucks and his family.
