Landis man sentenced to probation after break-in, mischief conviction
A man from Landis has been sentenced to nine months of probation after pleading guilty to breaking into a home and causing mischief during a heated confrontation last June.
Derek Reginald Hazelton admitted to kicking in the door of a woman’s home on June 12, 2024, following what the complainant described as a period of ongoing harassment and unwanted contact. According to facts presented in court, Hazelton had shown up at the residence late at night, demanding a response to messages and forcing the door open while the woman stood behind it.
Canada pledges $4.3B in support for Ukraine as Carney, Zelenskyy meet at G7
Prime Minister Mark Carney outlined $4.3 billion in new support for Ukraine's defence as he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Alberta on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister's Office said that sum includes $2 billion for weapons like drones, ammunition and armoured vehicles — funding that Canada will count toward its NATO defence spending target.
Canada is also lending Ukraine $2.3 billion to help the embattled country rebuild its infrastructure.

The Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs will be guided by the development process set out by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), the spearheading body for Canada’s various livestock codes.

Each Tuesday this summer, the Kindersley and District Co-op is hosting a series of $5 community lunches. Held at the Kindersley Senior Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., these lunches are part of a grassroots initiative to support local organizations through good food and good company.

RCMP investigating break-ins at post offices in southwest Saskatchewan
RCMP detachments in Swift Current Rural and Leader are investigating a series of break-ins at post offices across multiple southwest Saskatchewan communities.
Leader RCMP say the break-ins occurred sometime between the evening of June 11 and the morning of June 12 at post offices in Lancer and Prelate. Damage was done to mailboxes at both sites. Police say no items have been reported stolen so far.
One dead, two injured in Highway 12 crash west of Castor, Alta.
A 79-year-old man from Red Deer has died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 12 west of Castor, Alta., on Wednesday.
Coronation RCMP responded to the scene of the serious collision just west of the town on June 11, prompting a closure of Highway 12 in both directions between Castor and Township Road 380.
In an update later that day, RCMP confirmed that a truck travelling eastbound on Highway 12 veered into the oncoming lane and collided with an SUV.
