Yearlong criminal trial of 'Freedom Convoy' organizers comes to an end

After 45 days of evidence and legal arguments the criminal trial of "Freedom Convoy" organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber is finally at an end.

A verdict could be as much as six months away.

"I don’t know in this moment when I will be in a position to give my decision," Justice Heather Perkins-McVey said Friday.

She said "it's a little daunting," given the unusually great volume of evidence and legal questions associated with the case.

Kindersley RCMP respond to 55 calls between June 25 and July 8, 2024

The Kindersley RCMP responded to 55 calls for service over a two-week period, handling a variety of incidents.

Wild Pigs Reported

Police received a report of wild pigs in a yard, but by the time officers arrived, the animals had left. Local Conservation Officers were notified.

Curfew Violation

RCMP observed a male travelling in a vehicle while under a 24-hour curfew. The individual was later arrested for breaching his conditions.

Air Canada pushing for government intervention as clock ticks on labour talks

Air Canada and business leaders are asking Ottawa to be ready to intervene in labour talks with its pilots as time is running out before a potential shutdown, but so far the government has said the two sides need to work things out. 

Airline spokesman Christophe Hennebelle said Thursday that Air Canada is committed to negotiations, but it faces wage demands from the Air Line Pilots Association that it can't meet. 

"The issue is that we are faced with unreasonable wage demands that ALPA refuses to moderate.”

Kindersley RCMP uses CAPTURE Program to help solve crime

The Kindersley RCMP is encouraging local residents and businesses to register their security cameras through the new CAPTURE program, which aims to help solve crimes, find missing persons, and recover stolen property.

The CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence) program allows police officers to quickly identify private security cameras near the scene of a crime. By consulting a map of registered cameras, officers can determine whether there is a camera in the vicinity and contact the owner to request footage from a specific date and time.

Biggar RCMP report: Week of September 9

The Biggar RCMP Detachment responded to 34 occurrences this past week, with Traffic Services keeping busy, issuing traffic safety discussions to 16 drivers. Several vehicle collisions were also reported.

In one incident, a white 1994 Chevrolet pickup struck a horse at large on Highway 4 North. Another collision occurred when a red 2009 Ford Escape hit a deer on Crozier Road. Additionally, a blue pickup truck failed to yield to an oncoming train while crossing tracks near Highway 14, west of town. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in any of these accidents.

Kindersley Fire Department responds to multiple calls on Wednesday

Kindersley fire crews were kept on their toes on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, responding to multiple dispatches throughout the day. Thanks to their personnel and equipment, the department was able to handle all incidents effectively, minimizing damage to property.

Here’s a breakdown of the day’s calls:

8:21 a.m. - Crews were dispatched to a residential fire alarm. However, just three minutes later, they were informed it was a false alarm, and all units were stood down at 8:24 a.m..

Is the west central area experiencing drought again?

According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada drought map published on August 31, much of the region ranges is listed in moderate or severe drought. With a few spots close to the Montana and Alberta borders in the abnormally dry category.

The severe drought spot runs from Swift Current north to the Rosetown area and west to Kindersley. 

Trevor Hadwen, an agriclimate specialist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, said much of the province's moisture levels are adequate.

PM, senior security officials slated to return to foreign interference inquiry

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of his inner circle are slated to return to a federal inquiry into foreign interference in coming weeks.

A newly published provisional witness list for the next phase of the inquiry's public work indicates senior government bureaucrats and members of national security agencies will also testify.

Trudeau and key government officials took part in the commission's initial hearings earlier this year on allegations of foreign interference in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.
